I foresee the 2016 Show-Me Bowl in Springfield being the most attended ever...

I for one will not make the trip now that it is in Springfield. Would rather watch games indoor than outdoor, but will not make the trip to Springfield. Lots of NW people have said the same thing.

Just curious, why would NW people not make the trip to springfield? Do they have something personally against Springfield or MSU? It surely isn't a longer trip. And I can't imagine it being the outside venue consider every game played up to that point will have been outside. And KC plays outside through January.

Yes I for one haven't ever supported MSU or Springfield - that is because of people I have known that went there. And I am meaning I am disappointed it can't be in the dome. Obviously the playoffs are played outside. I try to make a few of those, but I like being able to sit in the dome the whole weekend and watch each game inside. That is my point. If the games were at Columbia I most likely would not go watch them there either. I just loved how it was inside lol. But yes most of my friends have said the same thing - will not make the trip. And don't lump NW mo people I am not speaking on behalf of them. I meant just me and some friends I know so I apologize for that.

...MAHSAA will wonder why they didn't do it long ago :D
Depends on the regions of the teams going there. Two factors will swing out of region (NW etc.) attendance: Weather and whether the games are on TV. Like it or not many folks consider Thanksgiving weekend one to visit or host family and that trumps (unless one of their kids is playing) the long drive to a title game. Given last year's games were not on TV (only available pay per view on mshsaa.tv) that may drive it up. What REALLY would is moving title weekend back one week like AR and OK do among other states. That would also relieve starting the season in the middle of what can be a very hot August.

Maybe I'm wrong; maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't miss the Show-Me Bowl in Springfield for anything (already told my wife I have plans now for Thanksgiving weekend...)

Maybe I'm the only one, but I have a feeling that the Westside fans will come out in droves even if their teams are not in it (Stl area fans probably wouldn't even make the short drive to the dome unless their team was in it...)

I foresee you being wrong. There were a lot of STL area fans of football that made the trip every year. Other than the Hazelwood Centrals/east ect. fan attendance I'm not sure you can complain much about others. Webster Groves and Kirkwood always brought good attendance. Valle always outnumbered their opponents fan base.

I went for 8 years straight until recently. I'm not going to waste a weekend making the drive to Springfield to sit in 55 degrees and rainy weather.

This year would have been miserable for the Saturday game.

To think Springfield has more unaffiliated football fans to show up to state games is silly. And that isn't factoring in the weather.

For those of us old enough to remember it was held in Springfield many times before the dome was built. When it moved to St. Louis I was a tad disappointed as Springfield is only 90 miles from me and the field is easy to get to. However I could see it being fair for all the north teams who had to travel south and west every year and they deserved a break. I know it would be more planning and whatnot but what's the problem with moving this game around the state every 2 year cycle? Kansas City has Arrowhead, St. Louis the dome, Springfield has Plaster (should still be called Briggs but thats another issue for another time), and I'm sure SEMO has a place as well.

I also agree with those who say we can play past Thanksgiving weekend. Lots of states do it, and even start basketball earlier, so I dont want to hear the conflict of schedule thing. Let's start on Labor Day Friday like we SHOULD.

I have never been to a State Championship Game. But I think it will be a good change and we're lucky to have a new place for kids to play.

I have attended state championship football since 1984. I loved every part of the dome. Basically because it was climate controlled and we always stayed at the Drury. I did attend when games were in Columbia and Busch Stadium. I will continue to go to the state championship games whether in Springfield, Columbia, or St. Louis. Why? because I love football and love the competition regardless of the venue.

Glad they moved out of that dump of a dome. Football is meant to be played in the elements.
I suppose you farm with horses or an old johnny popper instead of a newer tractor with cab and air? Just cause football is meant to be played outdoors doesnt mean its not great to be inside. It was nice to see the best 2 teams in a perfect environment to go out and make plays instead of droppin passes and fumbling the ball

Exactly.

And yes I still use my Johnny pop to turn dirt.

Agreed Lombardi. And very glad they're having them all at the same location, that's the biggest thing.

See I never attended a game in St Louis not to say I wouldn't have but it just never worked out that I could. I have always thought the games needed to be in a more central location in the state so all fans could attend or at least moved around. I am not going to argue about the merits of playing the games in the dome because I think most would agree that having the championship games in the dome was good. It was just the location was not ideal for most in the state. It is what it is, and had St Louis been football fans and supported the Rams and pro football you might not have to be complaining about not having the games in St Louis.

Had the Rams had an owner who was more interested in having a winning team than making the absolute most money possible it wouldn't be an issue either. There was nothing St. Louis could have done to keep Kronke there. He was leaving regardless.

The dome was a hole and behind the times when it was completed. It was never in contention for a Super Bowl even when new which is a good indicator it was already outdated and not a very good venue. Sure Kronke probable wanted to leave but St Louis is not a football town, they are baseball even when the Rams were winning they never fully embraced it.

I've been in enough opposing team stadiums to know when the Rams had given Saint Louis a reason to support them, the fans out did most. Saint Louis isn't just a one sport town by the way. If the Blues ever win lord Stanley you'll figure that out.

Basketball attendance maybe up in Springfield, but football in springfield and outdoors? The attendance will be down.
I'm not talking Springfiwld fans as much as I am fans from the rest of SWMO...

Again, maybe I'm wrong; maybe I'm just assuming there are more fans like me in SWMO than there really are...

Mits from your area of SWMO I would say Basketball is king for most fans and I mean COC and OZARK conferences.

I think the attendance overall will be about the same if the weather is decent, maybe if we have some local schools in it you could see a bump just depends on who all from this area is in it. But a lot on here say MSHSAA already knows that, and talked about the way the playoffs played out, I heard a lot talk about east verse west instead of north versus south, to make sure some St Louis schools were in the dome to bump up attendance.

I doubt the venue change will have a huge impact on attendance unless you ended up with a scenario like Lamar in C2, Monett in C3, WC in C4, Carthage or Nixa in C5 and Kickapoo in C6. I don't know the outlook for any of those teams this year, just an example, but it's within the realm of possibility. Not only would those teams bring a lot of fans but many of them would watch each others games as well.

From my limited observations in the dome and playoffs, teams from this part of the state seem to have a larger following than STL. Whether that's because there are more other activities and things to care about, or just less interest in football, who knows. So if it did work out where you had several classes represented with sw area teams, it could actually be larger overall attendance.
But that seems like a long shot to have the classes stacked with this region so most likely I suspect attendance will be about the same.

no more worries about Black Lives Splatter, I mean, Matter,
How clever and classy.
You're obviously describing the highlight of your cultural experiences when you talk about going to a movie at the mall in Springfield.
And you wonder why southern Missouri has to fight the backward, illiterate stereotypes, and the cousin lovin' jokes.

The concessions just won't be as good at SMSU's stadium. BUT at least I can go to Trotters before the game, and see a movie at battlefield Mall. Ah, no more worries about Black Lives Splatter, I mean, Matter, protestors making it scary. A Ferguson free Show me Bowl. Yeehaw.

Boy, I wish we did still have Trotters. That was some good eats. You are going way back with that one.

I wonder how will the change of venue effect TV coverage of the Show-Me Bowl......Will Fox Midwest renew contract or the games moving to on-line streaming only?

Mitts is right about SWMO turning out for the games unless it's bad weather or the SWMO teams all get knocked out early. There should be LOTS of unaffiliated fans there.

I for one will not go every year like in years past getting older is a bitch and I won't sit outside all day long if it is cold or wet.
