But hopefully we can all agree that we have a problem in our country.

Luckily for them Expect, they can always live off welfare, WIC, and foodstamps. It pays a lot better, and I
I don't mind footing the bill.

See, I'm a good little Democrat.

How many jobs actually pay minimum wage any more?? Our starting wage is about $2 over minimum and we can't get people to work for that

Look Duck, I made 2 post without mentioning abortion.

Why should I? Instead of having a Dr. suck the life out of me, I'll just let the freeloaders do it.

Again you blind people only complain about the money government gives the poor and don't say a word about all the free stuff big business gets from the government or wasted money the pentagon gets to help blow up the world. Lots of wasted money out there and for all u bible thumping Pubs I would think you would rather it go to the poor than the rich according to the teachings of Jesus, but that's just not the case.

It was a joke people!
Guess you guys are so partisan that fun is no longer part of your vocabulary....

Wrong again!
I complain about EVERY person AND business that the government gives a handout to.
While i'm not a "Pub", i'm what you consider a "Bible thumper" because I correct false statements made about the Bible and Jesus. I absolutely believe we should help the poor rather than the rich (as the Bible states). The problem is, "we" isn't the government! The Bible NEVER promotes a system of forced participation in charitable programs. It also NEVER requires helping those who don't try to help themselves. The Bible tells the church (followers of Christ) to take care of orphans and widows, the sick and poor, and those under persecution. What you promote is the government (not the church) forcing (not asking) everyone to indiscriminately give things to many people who A) aren't in any of those categories and B) put themselves in trouble who aren't trying to get out. If you have scripture disputing this, feel free to share it.

Along those lines, Obamacare (or whatever heathcare plan you choose) would be fine if it provided health care to the poor and sick and nothing else. When it FORCES people to purchace things they don't want and often don't need, it penalizes (not a scriptural principle) free choice (a scriptural principle).

You don't have to purchase insurance. You can pay a tax instead. Jesus is quite clear on that being ok

Not to mention we have a secular government for all people

Why don't you cry and bitch about auto insurance being required to operate a car?
Because it wasn't Obama's idea? Hell yes

You would think the self proclaimed smartest guy in the room would know that whether it's a fine or compliance, the government is MANDATING money come from my pocket. It really matters not what form.

I never said otherwise. My post was in response to someone foolishly stating Christians should support government forcing participation in "government charity".

Miller you are wasting your time.

Do you not know by now that these folks don't recognize you as Christian.

You are a hateful, mean spirited, lying Republican who worships Rush Limbaugh and loves FOX NEWS.

Don't you understand that heaven is only reserved for Democrats.

Silly Conservative ....

You do realize that not all people believe in the Virgin Mary, or any of the other ramblings of Christians. There are people out there who don't even believe in heaven and our government has to look out for them also. Separation of church and state is being attacked daily as the Pubs try to force their religious beliefs down everyone's throat. I doubt there are more Dems guilty of this than Pubs. My guess is the Pubs think heaven is only reserved for them

That's what taxes are...

Heaven is only reserved for those who believe....
Is that so hard to understand?

As for forcing religion upon others, I have to agree. It's not my place to tell you how to live your life.

When abortion is involved many christians see their envolvment as saving the "child's" life rather than interfering with yours.

Though "most" Chistians do not recognize the Federal Government as their savior, they do believe that it has it's place in the hierarchy of life, just not #1.

Can't talk about any of this without bringing up the death penalty.
Most Republicans support it, I do not.

Like all things in life, I believe GOD should have the final say so, not MAN.

Let the hate mail begin....

Name one passage that indicates taxes are a good or virtueous thing. There aren't any.
He never said they were. He said they were not opposed. There are several that say you are to pay what is owed, and that the authority is given by God.
Romans 13:7 ESV / 14 helpful votes
Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.
Romans 13:1-7 ESV / 9 helpful votes
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.

My point is that government is not the hand of God. It should support all of it's
citizens regardless of their faith.

Exactly. From a scriptural standpoint, taxes just are and are to be paid in submission to those in authority.

The statement was made that God wasn't opposed though implying support of.

The origional post I was addressing said that Christians should want government giving money to the poor. After addressing that eroneous statement you guys jumped in to say God had no problem with taxes. The scriptures say we should obey the law which is not what you were saying.
If you think God is fine with taxes you need to show scripture that says so. If you think God is not fine with taxes, you need to not imply He is.

God sets things in place to bring a result.
Do you think God thinks the Hollocaust was a good thing? Slavery? I'm not asking if God is in control (as your verse shows). I'm not asking if we should submit to authority (as your verse shows).
