I agree with most of this, except two Trump promises still unkept:
1.) He’d proudly take the blame for the shutdown.
2.) Mexico paying for the wall.
I am still curious how was he going to make Mexico pay for the wall or how did all those who believed this statement think this was going to happen?
This isnt something he mentioned once.
This was THE recurring theme at rally after rally after rally. So ask Trump and his droolers when Mexico will cut the check.
Dont blame Dems for voting on the same package the Senate UNANIMOUSLY approved to keep the government open. There was bipartisanship and your boy shot it down for an ego trip. He owns it.
Trump said at least once when pinned down (before the election) Mexico wouldn't write a check to pay for the wall but would pay for it through improved trade deals that benefited us and cost them. Does the new NAFTA deal do that? 5 billion isn't that much.
I know I never thought Mexico was gonna write us a check and haven't heard anyone other than Democrats who claim it was expected.

I don't know what Hannity said (you seem to be an expert on him though) but when I voted for Trump I understood it would be through improved trade deals. Everyone else I know (who voted for Trump) says the same thing. How did we know this if it wasn't before the election?

Please don’t use the renamed NAFTA “deal” as a way Mexico would pay for the wall. If changing a name magically brings $5.7 billion your way then start calling me “Millerbleach Jr.”
Duck serious question, but I know I will not get a serious answer from you, because well you worship the ground Pelosi walks on. But do you think the Dems at some point go, hey this man is fricking crazy, we are going to have to get this government open so these families can get paid, or is your girl willing, just like Trump, to take this shutdown all the way until families are really hurting in the next few months? Are the Dems like you willing to say hey we want to work with them to fund border security just so those 800,000 families will finally get paid? How far are you willing to go?
My honest answer is I don't think Trump will give in, so I am hoping that Pelosi will put her massive ego aside and say hey let's give him a bone and use that goodwill to take the white house, but honestly I don't think a white rich woman from the safest House district has any reason to give any ground on this, and really doesn't care anymore about those families than Trump.
How is a 'better trade deal' going to help pay for the wall? IF it is truly better any money made will be going in the coffers of big businesses, NOT the U.S. Treasury. Trump ain't gettin his hands on that money to pay for a wall or anything else.

Why do we not want our jobs and trade going to Mexico? If it doesn't benefit the U S economy and revenues, why do we care if it all goes south of the border?
it benefits the companies doing the trading. That money would not go to build a wall or hire more border patrol agents, it would go in the pockets of big businessmen.
So, companies and jobs going to Mexico benefits businesses but companies and jobs staying or moving back here benefits businesses.
You tell me who gets the money IF the trade deal is better than the old one? The government is not doing the trading, businesses are.
The more the business makes the more taxes they pay. The more the business makes the more employees they hire. The more employees they hire the more taxes the employees pay. The more the employees make the more they spend. The more they spend, the more those businesses pay in taxes........etc., etc.
It's terribly easy. You make every person, car, and truck entering the USA at border crossings from Mexico pay an entry tax.
I travel worldwide and have to buy a simple entry/exit visa for probably half the countries I visit.
3R, if you want to be taken seriously you have to make valid points. Even if you are correct, businesses do pay taxes! Their employees do pay taxes! The places the employees spend their money do pay taxes! All these taxes increase with business staying or moving back which means we gain and Mexico loses. 5 billion is a small amount of tax revenue in any nationwide equation.
Noe wonder Mexico won't pay for the wall! I guess we'll see how the new deal turns out, last I heard it hasn't;t even been put in place and you have us gaining billions in revenue from it. It still kills me to see you folks call 5 BILLION dollars a small amount.
