If some rich donor, a billionaire alumni maybe, came along and gifted a billion dollars to Lindenwood football with the intention of getting Lindenwood to Division 1 and making them a perennial top 25 program, what changes are made, who do you hire, and what conference do they seek affiliation with?

Make the big 12 great again! Hire Lou Holtz,

Or they could start by beating some of the decent teams in the MIAA that missed the playoffs. :)

Honestly, it is a fun question! But I would hope a billionaire would do something way better with his money.

1. Increase the capacity of Hunter Stadium from 7,450 seats to 35,000.

2. Seek affiliation with the American Athletic Conference, might as well aim high right? They'd be happy to add a another team with UConn deciding to go independent.

WEST
Memphis
Navy
SMU
Tulane
Houston
Tulsa
Lindenwood

EAST
Cincinnati
UCF
USF
Temple
ECU
Charlotte
Old Dominion

Tulsa and Memphis become immediate regional rivals and Lindenwood's expanded recruiting budget lets them go hard in Texas and Louisiana.

If this isn't doable Conference USA is a good consolation prize with probably a better cultural fit.

3. Who do you hire? Idk.

Well it wasn't a billionaire, but University of North Dakota had a Las Vegas casino owner alum that gave 150 million to build the football and hockey arenas. Wanted them to do two things: Go 1AA in football so hockey can be great and keep the name Fighting Sioux. Got one of the two but they held on as long as they could.
