Wonder who moves up one Class and who goes up two? Has the criteria been established?

Depending on how they weigh it? My understanding is it has more to do with playoffs than season record. Valle would be hurt the most by that. LN, Trinity, and CR cannibalized each other in district play several time in the last 6 years. Trinity only made it out of districts twice in the last 6 years.

Valle - State Champ, State Champ, Semis, State Runnerup
LN - District Champ, District Champ, Semi, Semi
Trinity - State Runnerup, State Champ
CR - District Champ, District Champ, State Runnerup

Here’s the simplest model I could think of only correlating to post season success and where the relevant teams stand in it.
District Championship-1
Win Quarterfinal-2
Win Semifinal-3
Win Championship-4

The real question is where do you draw the lines for moving up classes. Personally I don’t think a 1 off championship run should bump you up a class for 6 years. In this system, IMO 6 pts & 10 pts is the where I would draw the line.

That would mean:
Valle Bumped to 3
LN bumped to 2(Class 3 with a 2019 ‘ship)
Trinity bumped to 3 (Class 4 with a 2019 finals appearance)
Ritter stays in class 2 (Class 3 with a 2019 District Title)

My biggest concern is that MSHSAA is going to rig the criteria to whatever it needs to be so that we get Lutheran North in class 3 & Trinity in Class 4 because those are the teams that have caused the most fuss.

Given that in order to win State you also have to win District, Quarterfinal, and Semi's so wouldn't it be:

District Championship-1
Win Quarterfinal-2
Win Semifinal-3
Win Championship-4

Yes that's pedantic, yes it doesn't change the overall point, but it could be the difference in moving up and not.

Make the cutoff for moving up two Classes 10 points and it means winning a championship at any point in a 6 year period puts you two classes up. Given the advantages private schools have, that's more than fair.

You could call it the same if you want. I obviously I was awarding points if you accomplished that goal and made it no further.

As far as the system goes, I just hope MSHSAA comes up with a model that moves up sustained success, not just ANY success. To me it’s unfathomable that member schools voted in this system without having public guidelines and are leaving it up to a private counsel to decide those guidelines.

If anybody has any in depth knowledge of how Illinois system works I’d be interested in seeing that

It’ll be interesting to see how MSHSAA politics comes into play in determining the formula. Lutheran North’s AD was on the committee that established the new success factor. Idk if that means he’s involved with the implementation of the formula itself, but I’d assume he’s part of it.
