Just a curious question with the previous thread... I loved the atmosphere at Plaster but for the fans that didn't have a dog in the fights did anyone fight the weather all 5 games?

I did. Had a relative play in a 2001 championship game and have went every year, to every game since 2002. Except for the year I went as a coach.

I went to both games Friday was going to stay for all three games Saturday but after he Cubs won was to excited to stay for the others! I have never been to the dome but I loved the atmosphere both days at Plaster. The weather sucked but that's part of it. I really enjoyed the first half of Monett game it was cold, cloudy, just a tiny wind, and the fog surrounding the stadium just gave the game a cool atmosphere. Will make for a cool story to tell the kids when I hopefully have them lol I only live 2.1 miles from plaster so I'm biased on having them here every year!

I went to the first 4 games, I said to heck with the last game, by that time I wanted to eat something inside and hang with the family

I attended all games. I have for 21 straight years. My dad, brothers, and 3 uncles attend each year. We really enjoyed Plaster and the atmosphere. Felt more like a High School game than at the Dome. I did appreciate the climate control of the Dome

Okay...admittedly, I slept in on Friday...longer than is ever normal. My son woke me like a little kid on Xmas morning.
When I saw the time, I started throwing things into my suitcase and, remembering the forecast of mid-50's and higher both days (lies! All lies!) I didn't pack appropriately. Now, you'd think after revolving around the sun for half a century, I'd know better, but I'm still a moron on occasion.
Long story being short: the wife wanted to know if we'd been to Bass Pro to buy $100+ worth of hats, gloves and handwarmers (she's addicted to viewing our online bank accounts). Turns out, my Christmas presents have been already bought and paid for.
Works for me. Wait until she gets the gloves I bought on the morning of 12/25....and I don't have to shop!
All that being said, I'd much rather watch the games at Plaster.
1. Much further from home, but!
2. I can leave the stadium after dark and not be worried that I don't have my glock on me
3. Springfield is a great town
4. Cashew chicken
5. Reminisce about undergrad school
6. Don't get harassed for spare change while trying to buy a ticket.

Plaster over the "barn" every time...

Haven't been to Springfield lately But when I was in school there it was the cashew chicken capital of the world. Great town!!

I was there for all five games. I admittedly would not have stayed for the class 5 game had my ride not been officiating the game. That being said I am glad I saw Vianny(sp?) play. #20 was a great player.

I was at the Dome most of the years the games were there. I never felt unsafe or threatened by anyone while entering or leaving the stadium. Did something happen?

How many people have had their cars broken into at the dome? I know I've heard plenty of stories from the past. A friend of mine coaches for Harrisonville, and traveled back home with his wife, and said when he returned to the car this year, she had inadvertently left the passenger window down. Her purse, the kids Ipad and many other things where untouched in the car. Hell the car would have been gone in the Lou.

I really wanted to and made plans to but unfortunately with things going on with my Mother in law it was not possible. One day I want to watch all the games don't know if it will ever get to happen. But my dream of watching the Cubs play for a title came true so who knows.

Is it a guarantee that the games will remain in spfld next year? I would be ok if the college towns could share the venues. Maybe different sites could host two or three games. MU, UCM, CMU, Lincoln would all be kind of centrally located. And like somebody else said - there are plenty of big hs stadiums that could host the smaller classes.

Did you see how many Lamar and Monety fans there were in the stands???

No high school stadium could have accommodated all of them without people lining the track two or three deep...

What's the largest capacity high school stadium in MO?

The only stadium I can think of that could handle the large crowds would be the NKC District Activities Complex (Staley). Even then, you'd need to add bleachers on the visitor side. Plus parking would be a nightmare. Keep it between Columbia and Springfield.

1. Friday night was too cold for the thieves to be out?
2. Who really wants an iPad now?
3. Harrisonville haka - I ain't swiping no purse from those bad a$$e$

It still is the capital Duck lol. After having not been there in a while, I've been there twice in the last year.

as far as high school stadiums that could host class 1 or 2 finals that are centrally located - I would think Jeff City, Sedalia, maybe one of Columbia schools? There are also suburban schools but they wouldn't be centrally located... As far as 8-man schools, there are a number of high school stadiums on the north and west side(where most of the 8-man schools are) Chillicothe, Maryville, St. Joe's, the KC suburbs, Sedalia, Marshall...

Faurot Field :)

There's nothing wrong with acknowledging that St Louis is statistically one of the most dangerous cities in America.

Sorry, I've been idle.
No, I've never had anything dramatic personally. I know it's happened there via news, though. I'm getting to be an old man, though. I did have to circumvent someone laying supine underneath the overpass last year. The good Samaritan in me wanted to check on the guy face down, but I was like: "Don't do it! The ol' pretending to be dead trick, eh? Well, I ain't buying it."
I don't enjoy the panhandling or the long walk in the dark back to the vehicle. Was I safe? Probably. Does any congested urban area make me uncomfortable? Yep.
I still backpack every summer in grizzly wilderness and i feel safer out there than I do in downtown St. Louis. Silly to most, but not to me.
Aren't you glad you asked? ;)
I see. Just curious. Well explained.
