How bad is the 5th Year & Transfer Portal still hurting seniors?

Seeing quite a few C4-C6 1st Team All-State players getting overlooked again by FBS schools. I'd rather coach an 18 year old without the baggage that most of these transfer malcontents carry.
I heard something last year that there are only 1/2 the freshman spots available that there once was. Is this the new normal?

Who do you have in mind that is being overlooked and should be on an FBS field? I don’t see this being as big of an issue as it’s made out to be, especially in Missouri.

If the baggage is extreme the staff likely wouldn't give them a commitable offer...portal or highschool all-state. The NIL and portal is here to stay with tweaks coming in due time as should be the case with new programs and benefits. Im guessing thats the main issue in this instance. What else have you "heard"?

Portal has ruined college football. Kids at 4 different schools in 4 years is a problem. There has to be a better solution. If a coach leaves, you can transfer without being penalized. You can transfer one time without being penalized. After that you should be forced to sit out. This has gotten ridiculous.

Hopefully some of it clears up once all the guys that got the extra Covid year clear out. It really log jammed rosters when you have 26 year old 6th year seniors still hanging around.

No it hasnt and as mentioned there will be some tweaks. After the covid kids clear out you can only transfer 1 time unless you're a grad transfer. NCAA football is just as popular as ever and will go forward and get even better.

I was speaking in more of terms of my interest. I used to follow Mizzou and other teams close, but when 30-40% of the roster is different each year it becomes difficult. Then a guy like Kedon Slovis is on his 4th school in 4 years, it just makes it hard to follow a team. I still enjoy watching college football, but not sure I can be a huge fan of one school anymore other than the service academies. I'll always pull for them.

Of course entertainment is selfishly always in one's own interest. Without the game being an actual successful thriving business it wont survive long term.

It is completely Fd up...not sustainable to have this much disruption. Certainly not serving the purposes of education.

Obviously these coaches are paid really well, but I can't imagine the headaches of all the new changes. Players already have mom, dad, uncle, HS coaches in their ear, now you have agents, boosters, etc. It can't be sustainable, has to be some changes coming. You probably have a few of the really high end players who are earning more than their position coach.

I personally know a couple of kids that had to go JUCO to get to a smaller D1 school after their sophomore juco year and they had several offers before Covid as a junior/ senior but they all got pulled so seniors could have the extra year. I know that’s anecdotal, but I think it’s happening a lot. If you look at the portal, only 42 or so percent of kids find a new home. I’m curious how that is effecting it as well.
