Let's play devil's advocate to signing Harper or Machado. Which I don't think is a thing anyway, but just humor me. Say the Birds go out and sign Donaldson, Pollack, Joe Kelly, and Britton. All would probably be 3yr deals. Britton might get 4yrs and Donaldson might be able to be gotten for 2yrs...but you get the point. Shorter term deals, that have risk (bullpen deals and oft-injured position guys) but upside too. Still not committing a ton of money, and certainly not long-term deal that could get ugly.

Lineup...Carp, Pollack, Donaldson, Ozuna, Dejong, Molina, Wong, Bader
Bench...Kelly, JMart, Gyorko, O'Neill, Munoz
Rotation...Mikolas, Martinez, Flaherty, Wacha
Potential 5th starter...Gomber, Reyes, Weaver, Hudson, Gant, Poncedeleon, Waino (sigh)
Pen...Kelly, Britton, Hicks, Brebbia, and the above guys that don't win the 5th spot

I much prefer an option such as this.

I'm guessing you mean Munoz rather than Ozuna on the bench. I believe J Mart will be put into a trade with some of our young pitching to acquire an impact bat. I do think Kelly and Britton would be good pickups. I really believe a trade will be what gets them a middle of the order hitter much like last year. I really feel like next years team will once again win between 84 and 90 games and on the outside looking in/ 3 years in succession is no longer a trend, but a reality.

Yes, meant Munoz...That's why I say keep JMart, and see if you can sign a Donaldson and Pollack/Brantley type of duo. Getting all of those pieces is the tough part obviously, but I don't see any way in the world that roster doesn't win more than 85 games. It's deep everywhere, both bench and pitching, simply because you didn't have to give away depth to acquire anyone.

I said OK. I will take it.
Lol, I figured that was it. Just giving you a hard time. I’d love to have a Harper type guy. I miss the days of having a Pujols/Edmonds/Holiday stud on the roster. But I just think with all the pitching depth, it’s better to go after a few pieces rather than one contract that could be too big to overcome.

A healthy Donaldson would be enjoyable to have in the middle of the lineup if he has anything left. I am desperate.
