Hillcrest joining OMC

The post seems to indicate that Hillcrest was approved but Parkview was denied, or at least for the time being. I would have expected it to be both or none. That complicates the picture maybe?

My best guess is the OMC just took Hillcrest to get 7. OC remains at 7. COC remains at 8. At least for the next two seasons for scheduling purposes. They can get schedules done for 2024 and 2025. Then work on the long range plan.

Did not see this coming... you gotta think something else is already going on.

This really throws a wrench into things. Wonder what back door conversations have happened preceding this move. Does the OC stay where they are? If I am Kickapoo, am I thrilled about my conference right now? Am I going to be happy about having my closest league game (outside the city) being a 1+ hour drive, in some cases nearly 2 hours or more?

I had heard that the 4 northern schools had already made their plans to move to a new league anticipating the OC would fold.

If the COC takes the remaining SPS schools (Central not including for football) you could have 11 teams and split into two divisions for football. Large and small. Could do some crossover/rivalry type games. In other sports everyone could play everyone.

I guess now maybe the biggest two question marks are 1. would the COC schools be interested in Parkview in addition to Kickapoo and Glendale? 2. Are the 4 northern OC schools content with the OC as it stands, or are they ready to move on?

1. I can't imagine Parkview wanting any part of the COC.

2. It is crazy that Kickapoo and Glendale would make a decision based upon the needs of Parkview.

If you are Kickapoo, the current OC really sucks for a lot of your sports. That's just the way it is. Football still has some tougher games on the schedule, but for all sports it's not the best situation. I wonder if the people over there at Kickapoo/Glendale are excited about the potential of developing some rivalries with Nixa/Ozark/Republic or if they're content with what they have currently.

I think its just buying everyone 2 more years of time for scheduling purposes. Also think Smith-Cotton will need a new home so the CMAC can add 4.

No matter the size, what has Parkview ever done for any school to be scared of them?

Heck they should all want Parkview in there to boost their district points every year.

This. I don't get it.

This was Parkview during the 2010s
I believe most of these seasons, maybe all of them, were when Hayes was the coach there.

So I guess it shows the potential of Parkview if they have the right guy at the helm.
I think that’s why they won’t let them in. Is the potential Parkview poses with their size and athletes(if they come out).
This was against a mainly Class 5/6 schedule.

2010: 5-6
2011: 3-7
2012: 8-3
2013: 5-6
2014: 7-5
2015: 5-6
2016: 2-8
2017: 1-9
2018: 6-5

Record against current COC schools in these years: 6-9

Against SPS: 14-12

Not saying that it’s impressive, but saying it’s wayyyy better than Marshfield or Rogersville would have done and I think those were probably the main opposition to Parkview.

Beachler & Hays worked well for Parkview. ('06-'16)

They were 6-5 in Ben Dougherty's first season (2018).

Rogersville won a state championship in 2011.

Yeah. They won the Class 3 title a few years before bumping to Class 4.
They followed the state title up with 5 straight losing seasons.
Then a .500 season.
Then a winless season
Then a losing season again.

Then in 2020, their first winning season in almost a decade, went 7-3
And lost to 1-8 Hillcrest by 2 TDs in the first round of districts.

Apparently CJ and Branson received a unanimous vote from the COC to waive the 2 year ban on playing COC teams after they leave.

Parkview too big for Branson’s liking?

I agree that Smith Cotton needs to look somewhere else. Do you think the Columbia Schools would be interested in all 4 joining?

That or they are a logical and nearby opponent for the other jasper co schools in every sport except football. Neosho and CJ might still want to play each other in FB for the time being.
I wasn't speaking specifically football, for the record.
