Allen Davis has accepted the head boys position at Park Hills Central.
MBCA Hall of Fame coach back on the sidelines.

I no he is a really good coach by why to schools keep recycling these guys. If you are why not put a young coach on the bench with him to take over in a year of two after they leave or somebody gets mad at them.

Likely a big guy using a phone. Auto correct can make you look bad if you don't check before submitting. Don't be too hard on the guy.

JMO but there aren't as many young guys out there who want to make a career of it. Many coaches nowadays coach a few years and get out to "spend more time with family" or "work on their master's degree". The days of long time coaches like coach Davis are becoming extinct. Let's face it as well that some of this younger generation doesn't want to work very hard and are motivated by money. Coaching is time intensive. I'm not a basketball coach but summer leagues, weight training, long winter season, AAU spring time league, etc., it's a lot of time and work for not a ton of pay.

There are a lot of things that have changed about coaching through the years. Certainly the offseason has become longer and more involved. But, and I think this is key, education has drastically changed. Expectations on teachers and teaching are really high. Same goes with coaching. Too many people get a say in things. Too few people really getting into a fox hole with the people they hire. There are stories upon stories of coaches getting treated unfairly in the HS realm. Hell, I can remember when Davis (at least I think it was Davis) left Desoto. Greg Allen did an interview with him on KFMO. He really opened up about a lot of the things going on in coaching that he didn't care for, and how it was much different than when he started. It's extremely societal now, but truthfully, people are far too self-serving to see those days of guys coaching at one place for a long time.

Totally agree on the education part. Overbearing parents who won't keep their nose out of what's going on, and under involved parents who are doing a poor job or raising their kids makes education right now tougher than ever. Very alarming stars from a recent MSTA survey

More than six out of 10 Missouri teachers have seriously considered leaving the profession in the last three years.

The survey further showed that more than eight out of 10 teachers know someone personally who has left the profession in the last three years.

Additional key findings of the survey included:
  • Less than 6 percent of respondents would recommend their chosen profession to their children or friend’s child.
  • Only 37 percent of respondents have not seriously considered leaving the profession in the last three years.
  • The top reasons for wanting to leave the profession include: low pay, stress, student behavior and lack of support from administrators and parents.

Helicopter parents are the worst. Parents agree to guidelines and how to raise concerns preseason, but throw that out the door when it's their kid that is being treated 'poorly' and they go right to the top. It's a joke

Problem is, the top is all too willing to lend an ear. Seems like that once wasn't the case.

I agree, years ago the Sup would tell a parent to stop....Now the Sup will tell the Coach to change their ways even though nothing is wrong.

How many coaches would have continued to coach if they would make anything close to what they would make in administration? Money does matter when it comes to that big of a difference in pay.
