He is a good guy, but Shannon must step down

Listening to today's game I cringed multiple times and felt awful for the Navy Seal Medal of Honor winner being interviewed by Mike Shannon. Shannon was totally unprepared for the interview. At first he didn't even know the guy was a navy seal.

Then he asked him during the interview two different times about movies involving navy seals where they do all that "underwater stuff" but he didn't know the name of the movies or who starred in them. The interviewee had no idea what Shannon was talking about and tried to be polite. There was awkward silence multiple times.

I felt so bad for the kid. Two of the questions included the Shannon's patented phrase "and so on and so forth". Both were followed by silence.

Shannon then went on to basically equate David Freese's heroism with his guest's. Cringe.

Later, John Rooney referred to Carlton Fisk's famous homerun. And Shannon said it hit the old Pesky Pole. Rooney pointed out the Pesky pole at Fenway is in right and Fisk's HR was to left. Shannon replied, "well who's pole is in left?". He wasn't joking.

Mike has never been very good at those interviews. I agree he's worse now. They really need to let Rooney do them. It'll be a sad day when Mike does leave for good. It may not be that far off.

I really enjoy Rooney. I was just really sad listening to Mike yesterday.

As long as Al still is employed, Mike can never be worse than second worst!

Fwiw...The TV interview with the Seal wasn't much better. Obviously, Dan was prepared, but you could tell the Seal was nervous or uneasy. Granted, it could've been after Shannon got hold of him. As I was watching, I just remember thinking...I don't really care if a Seal knows how to GIVE a good interview. As long as his interviewing techniques are solid and he's one bad SOB, it's all good!
