New Covenant upset Billings in the first round of Missouri Class 2 District 11 in 2011 at Spokane, 100-99. New Covenant was 14-7 that season, while Billings was 22-3. Crane, the No. 2 seed, ended up beating New Covenant in the finals.
I'm sure this has happened many other times, but it's the one that I can remember off the top of my head in an eight-team district.
I don't really count the four- and five-team districts, I mean, that is more about luck and geography than anything. If you're lucky enough to get in with a bunch of slackers, you could do about anything in a four- or five-team team district.
There a great example of that on the girls' side this year in C5 D10. Jefferson City is the No. 1 at 14-11, and they're a decent team. Camdenton, the No. 4 in a four-team district, is 12-12 could easily win out on their homecourt.
I wouldn't really call it a huge upset if they did, certainly not in the traditional 8 beating a 1 sense.
Not a big fan of the four and five-team districts if you can't tell. I mean, what's the next logical step from a four-team district?
Okay, rant over.
