No trolling, promise. What has happened to Harrisonville? Weird to see them struggling so much.

Harrisonville will be just fine. I saw them play in week one and they were really young. If I remember correctly mostly Sophomores and some Freshmen! It is nearly impossible for 14 and 15 year old boys to compete with 17 and 18 year olds. But on the bright side look out in two years because those kids will be seasoned vets looking to give back what they received. That town is too good of a football town to stay down for very long!!

Makes sense. Thanks. And that last sentence is what had me so curious really.

I thought they were pretty Junior heavy (mostly Jr/Soph) - and the juniors that I saw weren't impressive. My takeaway was "what happened to their seniors?", and that their juniors aren't going to be dominant next season (i.e. those kids aren't playing because they're studs - they're playing because there is nobody better.)

Hate to say it, but Harrisonville's V really should be competing at the JV level this season. I'm not sure that the beat downs they've received this year will build them up for next season. I didn't expect them to win a game, guess they found someone on the kansas side of state line to beat.

Lamar started there dynasty in 07 without winning a game. Why you ask it started then? Because they were so bad and so thin at Jr and Sr grades that the majority of the starters were freshman. In 4 years they played in the first of how ever many state title games they have been to in a row now. Varsity experience that early in your prep career is liquid finite.

Players who are not talented enough are going to be not talented enough whether they start 4 years or 1.

JV results not so good either.

Thier sideline when they were up in Maryville just didnt look like a typical Harrisonville team. Very few numbers.

Didn't this timeline kind of follow the tenure of the Lamar HC too - I'd make the argument that the latter is more relevant than the former. Not to mention the fact that there are generally a lot more freshmen and sophs playing class II than class IV. It wouldn't matter how early Harrisonville starts them - they're not going going to dominate their class the way Lamar has ran Class 2.

As I said, my observation of H'ville was more "what the heck happened to them (uppersclassmen)", than "whoa, they're loaded with young talent"...

They should beat Oak Grove.

Most public schools have ups and downs. Harrisonville obviously is not immune. Bad programs have more downs and good ones have more ups. Harrisonville has the tradition to bounce back quickly. Nothing said that everyone doesn’t already know. Typically too there is more of a rollercoaster in smaller schools because a talented class or two (or non-talented) can make for a big swing in success. All that to say on here again that what Lamar has done leaves me scratching my head. 7 titles in a row by a small public school is crazy.

Accentuated when you are one of the smaller schools in Class 4. Numbers matter.

It certainly has been a while since Harrisonville has had a down season like this years.

Harrisonville is one of those programs that you just pencil in 8-9 wins even in a down year. It is surprising to see them so far down.

Not to make this about Lamar but someone decided to do so. So I’ll ask. Are you really suggesting none of these boys from Lamar are good? And it’s all coaching? Have you watched them ever?

So strange.

In high school it’s about the Bobby’s and Joe’s more than the X’s and O’s. Unless your Webb City. Then you can have running backs who run 4.8 40’s and 160 lb middle linebackers and somehow still win state. Not this year obviously, those dudes are fast.

That is where my question came from really. It's just strange to see.

Way to try to turn the thread from Lamar to Webb City. The tug of war is on.

I can't say what the breakdown is in importance between super talent and great coaching but I appreciate great coaching NOW more than I ever did years ago. With no one (parents or kids) wanting to work hard for things much anymore? It takes some actual talent to motivate these kids to hang in, work hard, and reach their potential.
