Hannibal 32 vs Jeff City 21 Final

Good win for Hannibal. JC offense is pretty bad too. No passing defense. None. Offensive line is very weak. I don't see that team winning any games this year. But I cant blame Coach Bailey. He inherited a program in turmoil from the last 2 previous coaches. Again good win for Hannibal.

Has nothing to do with previous head coaches. I hope Coach Bailey stays and gets it pointed in the right direction. It will take time to build the program back up. Adding the second HS will make it a bit more difficult. And they will not go 0’fer on the season. They will win 2-3 games

Agree with all your points. I think they have a decent chance of being 3-3. After that the outlook isn't great for this year but there will be some spirited games between the J. C. 3.

Wow so Bailey and the unstoppable “Spin” Double QB nonsense is now a strong 0-2. Looks like a winless season coming up in Jeff City
I’ll be curious how that offense translate to class 6. Too many good athletes and coaches that can game plan. We shall see over time. Can’t judge it in first year or second year let alone 2 games

it would be unprecedented if an Offense like that worked in modern day high level football. Gimmicky stuff is for the low classes were you can get away with a lot of stuff. Class 6 athletes are different.

I don’t know exactly what about an offense that reeled off 7 straight state titles is a gimmick??

But if you watched the game I don’t remember seeing the Jays do anything remotely similar to what he ran at Lamar so not sure what this discussion is even about lol

I believe the Spinner offense was perfected down in Louisiana with Catholic HS in Baton Rouge. I may be wrong but they play 5A ball and have long list of NFL and MLB players from there. From 2006.
“Weiner first unleashed the ‘Spin,’ named because the QB pivots on every snap, in the 2001 state playoffs. The results have been tremendous. Catholic High has posted a 50-9 record, averaging 34.5 points per game. They’ve made the playoffs every year and currently have won 29 straight district games.

I'm not a big fan of the offense, but you seem to be misinformed on the importance of the type of offense a team runs. Like any coach would tell you, it's way more about Jimmies and the Joes than the X's and O's. If you have great runners, run the ball...a lot. If you have great receivers, get them the ball...alot.

It's just another version of the single wing. See Apopka, Florida, class 6A. Florida 6A football has way more talented athletes from roster to roster than Missouri does, and yet, somehow all the spinning and pulling and misdirection "gimmicks" seem to do fine for Apopka. 159-43 since coach Darlington has been there with 3 state titles, 2 national titles, and multiple playoff runs in, just in case you forgot, Florida 6A.

People have been spinning since Pop Warner created the single wing, and coaches have many riffs off of it. Weiner's version of it was mostly a one QB offense, though he definitely had FB direct snaps incorporated and could have easily adapted to 2 QBs. He also typically had 1 or 2 receivers on the field split wide with the slots being the motion guys from a balanced formation (though I'm sure he also used some unbalanced formations).

When were those national title tournaments? How was the bracket decided? Just curious. Would be interested in watching that.

It's a pretend national championship, much like the ones in the NCAA for 100 years, and people seemed ok with them, soooo...

That's cool. Do they have pretend games?

Obviously. And newspapers and websites have pretend rankings that they use for the purpose. Burger King at one time sponsored a "State Champions Bowl Series" which put some of the highly-ranked state championship teams into actual post-season matchups with the purpose of crowning a "national champion," but I don't know if they ever continued with it after 2014.

Its not the X's and O's, its the Jimmys and Joes. I heard Coach Kill say in a clinic once - you better forget about the X's and "O's and get you some Jimmys and Joes

Not matter what Offense or Defense you run, the bottom line is Blocking and Tackling, and the weight room in the off season. People dont realize in the later years at Lamar, Coach Bailey did a GREAT job of putting in packages that fit what his players did best, that were not part of the double wing spin offense. I remember running the option at Monett for the first time ever in 2016 out of a single wing alignment. In 2015 he had 15 plays out of the Maryville Spoofhound formation that fit what those kids did. I think at times you would see lamar in 4 wide, you would see empty, you would see splitback, you would see almost a power I = because it fit the kids.

The Double wing spin was successful at first becasue of the smoke and mirrors in the backfield - as years went on and kids got in the weight room and got stronger- it really took off. It took off because the kids got stronger, in which they got better at blocking and tackling.

Coach Bailey will find what his kids do best, and he will put them in position to perform at their highest level doing what they do best, no matter what set of offense it is. He will build relationships with as many kids in the school as he can and get the out for football, he will get the kids in the weight room in which they will get stronger. He will then make sure he has the schemes in place that fits those kids, and because they are stronger from the weight room they will be able to block and tackle better which will lead to more success.
