There will be a huge crowd. Hallsville will fill the visitor's stands. KWRT Radio in Boonville will broadcast game, there will also be at least 2 other stations broadcasting it as their game of the week. The extended weather forecast looks decent with a very low chance of rain and temps in the upper 50s at game time. The game will be played on Ram Turf.
Last year Boonville jumped out to a 30-0 lead in the first quarter running mostly jet sweeps out of the spread. Boonville failed to score the rest of the game. They had at least 3 turnovers and two long plays, including a touchdown, called back due to penalties. Hallsville's aggressive defense forced turnovers, but despite the turnovers and penalties Boonville was able to hold on for a 30-14 win.
IMO both teams' offenses are quite a bit better than last year.
Boonville's defense, which lost stud defensive end Lane West, linebacker Harper Stock who lead the team in tackles, linebacker Andrew Wiser. and a couple of bulky defensive linemen to graduation will also be without 4-star defensive end DJ Wesolak who, as of this writing, is ineligible. Boonville has struggled at times on defense this year but has also played very tough at crucial times in the red zone. The defense has been described as a bend-but-not-break defense. The defensive backfield is athletic with some big playmakers but is incredibly undisciplined at times leaving receivers wide open. They seemed to have regressed in this area the past couple of weeks. If the trend continues this week then expect Hallsville to capitalize with some large gains in the passing game.
I don't know much about Hallsville's defense except that they are creative and aggressive. They seem to be quite a bit improved from last year.
The kids are fired up for this game, they are extremely excited! These kids competed against each other in 7 on 7 this summer and at the Jamboree. They have been on group chats talking smack to each other since early summer. It should be a competitive game, it will decide the Tri-County Conference Champion, and could be extremely consequential to Boonville's seeding in Class 3 District 5. Mexico and Blair Oaks fans will be tracking the score of this game closely.
