$2 million fine and the Birds surrender their top 2 draft picks (No. 56 and No. 75) this year to Houston. Thoughts?
My first reaction was "wow, really" but after some time to simmer down, I agree. I like the way Hummel put it. Stiff penalty, but not exorbitant.Seems fair to me. They got caught with their hands in the cookie jar. Sends a pretty strong message to the rest of the league.
Penalty to the Cards doesn't seem too bad really.$2 million fine and the Birds surrender their top 2 draft picks (No. 56 and No. 75) this year to Houston. Thoughts?

Correa is the one that got the shaft. Given all the other things being punished in this country, four years for what he did just seems nutty.
Who would you like to see them go after? Position player or pitcher? Anyone specific?Wow. That's probably going to keep the birds from making a ballsy blockbuster trade. No wait, that's Mo.
I think if Marp can translate his game to the 3 hole then I like him there. And I really think we're sleeping on Piscotty in the 4 hole. We don't necessarily need a guy there who mashes. With the OBP we should have in the 1-3 spots, we need someone who can drive guys in at #4. Piscotty has shown a knack for that. That said, I wouldn't be opposed to a guy like Longoria if they could pull it off. Or a stud starter like Quintana.I have no idea now. Decent free agents are gone. In my opinion we still don't have a #3 or #4 hitter. We have several #6 hitters.
This isn't that bad, honestlyPenalty to the Cards doesn't seem too bad really.

I did say if they could pull it off. I also disagree with the notion that they don't have the pieces. It'd probably just be way too steep after that trade set the bar stupid high for the rest of the market this offseason.Look at the Adam Eaton trade
