Parts of the article have caused me to consider a softer stance. This is a well written article that gives arguments from both sides. It tells you the source of the research and even provides criticism. Yet you still need someone to explain it to you. Ironically, this explains a lot.
There is a lot of data that shows some of the disparity is caused by policing. That's a difficult thing for a lot of departments to admit. Black Americans do not use illegal drugs at a higher rate than whites, yet they go to jail a lot more often for using drugs. They have illegal things on them at a lower rate than whites do when searched by police (but they get searched a lot more often)that's exactly what they are saying, Kind of like the sentencing disparity between convictions for powder cocaine vs crack. I almost agree with that though all the sentences should be what it is for crack cocaine
I have never heard anyone say that the minoritys in prison are innocent, so they break the law at a much higher rate than whites they go to jail more (duh??)
I had forgotten Sly's sentiments. You know he got bullets shot at him on the Plaza?Kansas City mayor, Sly James Jr. says
"Legislators, who are predominantly white, seem to ignore the racial implications of the laws they make"
What is he saying? Is he suggesting the law should be different based on race?
First, whites are racist for treating blacks differently, then it's the whites fault when they treat them the same, with different outcomes.
