There's a pretty big difference between Pujols and Grichuk, plus:
- Grichuk was in center! Not left
- Grichuk hit fifth. Odds are good he wouldn't bat until the bottom of the second! If you're going to play him because you think his bat is that valuable, shoot, you've got to bat him higher in the lineup (no lower than third) so he bats in the first inning.
At the least, when you have the 40 man roster in September and you're playing at home, you gotta play someone in the OF for the top 1 of the first who can throw, then PH with Grichuk if his spot comes up.
The optimal use has to be as the best PH off the bench when there are runners on or something like that. His value is his power. Put him up there with two men on. That's going to be more valuable than letting him bat 3 or 4 random times while having to play defense.
This was pure insanity and we are lucky we won.
