Grain Valley 15, Kearney 7 FINAL

A

I nailed this one earlier this week, frankly. Eagles have been a hard luck team in the Suburban Blue this season............

I am not sure about that...............but was not there. I actually like Grain Valley this year. Now will hfcdawg return to issue his opinion(s)?

Yeah, that's what I would call it. Rough game that K-town never should have lost. Bummer all the way around, Stevens appeared to hurt his knee more seriously. Bevan got banged up in the middle of the D.

The play calling was just atrocious, use the full play clock to run a dive up the middle on first down every time. FINALLY ran the jet sweep with #12 (in 4q), it picked up 12-15 yards, then didn't go back to it (they should be running that one 1/2 dozen times/game with his speed.)

The play calling gets worse every week! The O-Line got manhandled! The good old days of running Power Offense in KMO are gone!

Here is why I have said since Jones left it is the O Line coach K misses the most.................

If Stevens and Bevan are out K's season is essentially done. Without those two, frankly, beating Ray South is not a given.

How far do you see the Dogs going even if Stevens and Bevan are both healthy? I don’t believe this team has near as many weapons as the last two years and Gray couldn’t get either one of those teams out of districts. What would you call a successful season in KMO now?

Over .500. Pre-season had them going 5-4 in the regular season. For me success is winning it all...................for what K has this year I would say avoiding a loss to Excelsior may have to fill the bill.

As I said weeks back they seem to lack identity on offense. IF you are unsure at this juncture who and what you are and have offensively it is very unlikely you ever figure it out.

Coach Lue is an outstanding coach, but to say that he's missed more than Jones as the HC/OC...just $%#% NO. They're down to 16-17 kids in the junior class, so the program is clearly headed in the wrong direction (as it has been for 3 years. ) I don't see Ray South as a given either, in addition to Stevens and Bevan, the rb was banged up too, if he can't go, that's likely an L.

It's unfortunate that the program didn't just go for a fresh start 3 years ago - go with a younger coach that had proven himself at a smaller class, because this thing isn't going to turn around. If folks are happy looking up at the Platte County & Smithville programs, than status quo is the way to go.

I will leave the coach situation to the school admin (we visited this the end of last season as well) but certainly won't argue what you are saying as you are way closer to the program than I will ever be. You are, of course, correct about Jones as OC he made the opposition cover the entire field and was very innovative/unpredictable especially the last 2-3 years of his tenure at KTown.

Honestly, as I prefer to accentuate what is going on positively in particularly the KC Northland, I am pretty much settled on where I am going from here on out this season: Staley (who I still think will be a major factor in C5) and Liberty North (the most significant story in all the Metro to date this season). I hope to be pleasantly surprised by the ole alma mater but don't expect it (but will watch and see if they remain on the same side of the bracket as Excelsior and Lincoln Prep as that would be doable down as they are).

You knew Kearney would throw two picks, one in the red zone, and have a blocked punt? Kearney had over 200 yards rushing and five more first downs than GV. By the way, when K won last year they had about the same rushing yards in their 31-7 win. I see a major letdown in talent. I don't see a Cade Hampton, Aaron Hoffman, or a Brett Mordacai level of players out their to make tackles. That group combined for a good percentage of the tackles last year. This year, they have a lot of sophs in key starting positions.

Kearney will beat Raytown South by 14+
Smithville will be a toss up. But Smithville by 7.

The gap is shrinking.
neutral field
[2019] Kearney (MO) 31, [2019] Excelsior Springs (MO) 21

I much prefer to attend games in person BUT even the webcast of Excelsior at Harrisonville was not impressive at all (Tigers appeared to have zero passing game and little team speed). The one advantage I saw with them would be O Line vs. D Line size............

As impressive as Kearney at Platte County?

I remember back when Kearney’s goals weren’t to beat Smithville and Platte County! We expected to beat those guys! Our goal was to play on Thanksgiving!

But if I understand you correctly, this has absolutely nothing to do with Greg Jones being at LN.... I hope Kearney gets someone that can turn this thing around, so that Joey can get back to trolling webbies.

So who would Jones' QB be? How many sophs would he start? Who would he have to replace Hampton, Hoffman and Mordecai? Jimmys and Joes...

Jones made the most of Jimmy’s and Joe’s! I have heard a few stories about this years kids and their off the field antics that were brought to the staffs attention and nothing was done about it! If the previous staff ever caught wind of kids being A-Holes or not representing the “K” they way it should be represented! They arranged numerous extra character building exercises reminding them that the program is bigger than they are!
I know it sounds petty but little things like that destroy the entire teams character and I firmly believe that carries over to the turf on Friday! I don’t care what anyone says one guy can change the culture of an entire school!! Not only the football team but every single team all the way down to the girls basketball team! Just ask any parent at LN! You can see the difference there now. Just look at one of their student sections at any game. Football or Basketball!

I also think the rest of that staff was very good! They didn’t have a choice! Good leaders convince good coaches to be great coaches and when the kids see how much time and effort the old guys with whistles around their neck put into the process they are more likely to do everything in their power to not let the team, school or town down!
A team full of Jimmies and Joes that are willing to freakin die for the team will beat the living crap out of a bunch of undisciplined studs! I have watched it happen numerous times!

I absolutely agree with you! The longer it goes on the harder it’s gonna be to put the train back on the track!

I remember very well when Jones was hired (2006). The Kearney FB program was in sharp decline. Numbers were scary low for a C4 squad. Anyone who thinks Jones simply inherited a bunch of talented players needs psych help, frankly.

Sorry I am still catching up from being out of town again this week.............I am still going to wait until the entire 2019 season unfolds before posting anything about the aforementioned situation. Still looks like getting the 4-5 seed is ideal UNLESS Lincoln Prep, still an unknown at the C4 level this year, is legit.

260 pound QB. Might be a problem.
