That whiner who kept warning about the cards offense and bench over and over but got criticized because the pitching led us to a nice division lead, probably feels vindicated right now.

Adams was hurt over three months ago and we never replaced him. That's just awful. We needed two strong bats at the deadline and got none..Martinez batted tonight because Cruz, Kozma, and Bourjos suck.

The three bats the Mets picked up have transformed their horrible offense into a big lead in their division and they gave up NONE of their studs.

The pirates are better than STL offensively at almost every position.

No doubt that this has to fall at the feet of MO starting in the winter when he chose to follow the saber metrics and traded for Heyward who had a good war but doesn't drive in runs. He could of signed Cruz for a pretty reasonable salary but he didn't have the WAR all he does is hit HRs and drive in runs duh. Then came B Moss uhg damaged goods. Not MO's best year. Right now I hope we get some of our injured players back and get into the playoffs which I think we will. but I'm not as confident as I was before Grichy went down. Worst offense of all teams that qualify for the playoffs right now and didn't have to be this way.

The Mets best player, David Wright has been
out for months. He is coming back this week to add to the three bats they got at the deadline which has transformed their whole season without giving up any of their young stud starting pitchers. Drives me bonkers that we didn't make a deal. I hope to heck we don't over react and heap riches on the singles hitter Heyward now.

The problem with Cruz was 2017 not 2015. Cards couldn't sign him with Holliday under contract.

His WAR will dictate we over pay for him.
I don't get your hatred for a guy who is playing well

Let's have some perspective we have a lot better record than the mets. I wish we scored more but the wins count the same whether you score a lot or allow very few runs.

Hard for us to be as good with Adams, Holliday, jay, and grichuk on the DL.

Heyward is a 25 M a year player. It's hard to appreciate a guy who earns it by doing everything pretty well as opposed to having one off the chart skill.

The mets have two guys with more than 12 HR. Cespedes added some pop but let's not act like they have murderers row here.

A big part of it is granderson - the signing worked out well.

They are averaging 5 runs a game since the deadline. #1 in the NL.

Over 20 games? That's too small a sample size to be meaningful.

The mets got better but let's not pretend the are the mid 90s yankees

Neuty I don't hate the guy I just think we have Grichy, Pham. and Pissy who are going to have to be traded or waste on the bench so I would hope they don't spend 15 to 20 million for 6 years on a guy we have other guys who can do it. Let's face it Adams has not done much for the last 2 years. We need a slugger RBI guy at 3rd or 1st Let Carp play 1st if we get a power 3rd baseman but I really have no idea who will be hitting the free agent market next year as I clearly have no idea about many things I post on here but I sure do enjoy it!! Go Birds

Seems to me calling up Piscotty was like picking up a bat, it just came a little later. He has 20 RBI in 30 games and could easily have two 2 HR games under his belt if not for being robbed of one a couple of days ago. Not to mention Heyward has been pretty dang good offensively for a while now. They have to get rid of Bourjos somehow with the OF depth they have that are ALL better than he is.

Adams is a real challenge to me - the cards do need more from 1B, and they may want to move Matt H there to save his body.

I don't doubt bourjos is gone after this year.

Not sure Holiday can or would play 1B 3r I agree Bourjos has not spot on this team

I guess if he refuses to play 1st they could trade him to the AL and get something in return. He can surely see the OF is better off without him in it. You can't just stick him at 1st for the playoffs and hope it works, and probably not a good idea to try him there in the middle of a playoff race. The guys that have been playing there are pretty good defensively and Adams might be back too.

Surely he can play 1B. Anyone can play 1B. It's a question of willingness.

As 3R notes, I don't know that I'd want him to figure that out in October 2015 - that seems like an offseason thing.

Holliday did play 3B in the minors. He was awful but he has played infield before.

Keep in mind, Matt is an atrocious outfielder, he doesn't have to be good, just not quite as crappy. That assumes you are ok with heyward grichuk and the third OF of your choosing.

If Piscotty hasn't earned a shot at keeping that job when everybody is available I don't what a guy would have to do to earn it. Before last night he had 5 more hits than anybody else on the team in the month of August and many of them went for extra bases. They may have to put him at 1st base but the kid needs to play until he fails to hit a for a week or two.

him and grichy if grichy can get healthy
I'd even rather have Pham on the roster than Bourjos. He hasn't hit for average yet either but he can do more things well than Bourjos. PB is just not a very good base runner.

Pham is PB w/o the stupid crazy range...at least right now. But I get what you're saying, and don't really disagree. I just think that 5th OF'er/PR/defensive replacement is far more important than a 12th pitcher that's on scholarship and won't ever be used in the playoffs.

We agree on the extra pitcher thang, not the extra bench guy. Pham can go get it too.

Pham just made a nice catch but they made a big deal about how he "laid out" to make the play. Give me a break, he caught the ball 3 to 4 feet off the ground. Diving had NOTHING to do with being able to catch the ball.

Where is the guy that was complaining about the offense? The offense has scored more runs as the lead has dropped to 3 1/2 games. You know it just might be that a couple of other teams are pretty dang good too. The Birds are 37 games over .500, have had the best record in baseball most of the season and still only lead by 3 1/2 games in the divison. Does he think if they had a couple more HR hitters they would be 40 games over, 50 games over? What would it take to make that guy happy? I don't know what will happen in the division race or in the playoffs but this team, with the "paltry" offense it has, WILL be in the playoffs! They only had ONE 4 game losing streak and only two or three 3 games losing streaks all year. That's a pretty consistent winner. They might get beat by some big HR hitting team to knock them out. Once you get to that point anything can happen, but they certainly have been the best in baseball this season while adequately replacing every injured player that has come about so far.
