We at Licking Summer Camps have tried hard to make our camps an integral part of the high school volleyball and basketball scene. We want to be part of the holistic process of student development that justifies the time and efforts we as educators invest in athletics. We believe strongly that giving back is an obligation we have. In two weeks we will announce then winner of the scholarship we sponsor for a student who participated in our camp to attend Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, MO.
This past Saturday , at Fox High School we held the first of what we intend make an annual leadership seminar. “Girls Take Flight: empowering tomorrow’s leaders today,” brought together 40 female high school student-athletes from the states of Missouri and Illinois. The event was sponsored by Licking Summer Camps and the St. Louis Surge women’s professional basketball team. Our roster of speakers performed incredibly. Angela Lewis, Lisa Miceli-Standage and Surge owner Khalia Collier provided great insight into the emerging role of female leadership in today’s evolving world. And Jackie Stiles was simply Jackie Stiles. Wow, what a group of role models. To spend a day probing, encouraging and challenging an all-star group such as we worked with today leaves me very confident, despite the constant doomsday social media predictions; our future is in good hands.
