Just watched St. Elizabeth have a 5 point lead with a few minutes left. They missed the front end of 3 straight one and ones. Then in overtime manged 2 shots and had 10 turnovers. I don't know if I have ever seen a team crumble that bad before.

The opponent probably had something to do with that! Sorry to be emotional here but I will only use terms like "choke" if I can or have done better. Don't hold your breath.................

Not really. Missing free throws has nothing to do with opponent. Most of the turnovers were just careless passes. They played so well for 3-1/2 quarters. Then just fell apart.
Sorry it happened. South Iron is becoming the Scott County Central of SEMO Boys Basketball. Let's see if anyone out there is old enough to remember.............

I could care less about either team and know nothing about it other than to ask the obvious: What did the opponent have to do with missing the one and ones at the free throw line?

St Elizabeth 100% choked and south iron stepped up big in crunch time.

St E was not even thought about getting out of districts at the start of the year, but made a run all the way to the Final game. Kids are kids. They are not pros. Things did not fall their way and I am sure they are very disappointed they did not finish it off. Congrats on a great season.

They have been to 5 straight final fours. They are not some big underdog story. I was just surprised how a team with that pedigree could wilt like that. They led 35-23 mid way in 3rd Qtr. They only got off 3 shots in the 4th missing all 3 and shot 4-9 FT in the 4th. They had 14 turnovers in the 4th Qtr. and OT. They had 5 straight TO's in Overtime. They only had 3 at halftime. They will probably go on and win state in Baseball so those kids will be fine.
Yes but to have 136 kids in 6-12 grades and keep losing 4-5 players a year and keep the tradition going is unreal each year they do it. If you ask people around town, they are surprised at the run. I am sure they got wore down and didnt finish the game off. But to say they choked..... Come on now.

I believe it is not far from bolivar. Like many of these top small schools they play quite the schedule.
St. Elizabeth is south of Jefferson City and East of the Lake of Ozarks. Old Catholic Germans that I think time has forgotten. Probably won't stumble on it unless you are trying to get there. If you ever do go to Miss Kitty's that place never disappoints!

They won a state championship in Baseball and 13 of the 15 players from basketball play baseball and they are probably going to win it again this year. These kids are obviously tough. I bet they would be the first ones to tell you they choked in that game. It happens. These are not 10 year old girls. These are 16-18 year old boys. I have raised 4 boys. Don't be a snowflake!
Key word in you reply is "BOYS".

Saying a team choked is attacking kids now? The definition of choked is failing under pressure. It is an adjective. High school players don't read mosports. If they did I might word things different. The word choked has been used on this site a lot of times.
Simple fact is you may be talking about someones kids on here or even grandkids. Not mine in this case but there is always the possibility. How would you feel if someone was on here talking about one of your boys? Just something to think on. Have a great day.

Fact of the matter, anyone saying a teenager(s) in HS athletics "Choked" is embarrassing. I was at the game, they were a rebound away from securing the game. South Iron was the favorite, winning 3 in a row now. So the fact that St. E had a chance to win the game is commendable in itself. I think we are forgetting to spotlight the fact that South Iron fought and clawed back into the game and gave themselves a chance to win. They played like champions. St. E has nothing to be ashamed of and their sports success speaks for itself. I think the word "Choked" can be defined by people in many different ways when it comes to sports. I don't think the OP meant it as disrespect. You hear the word all the time in sports. I don't think its appropriate on a message board primarily for HS athletics.
