Home of the Cubs!!
Aurora and Monett have played each other for 89 years straight and tonight that all ends. I was excited that the Big 8 was going to expand but it is a travesty that neither Monett nor Aurora's administration could figure out a way to keep this game going. There are only 7 conference games so what the heck?

History will be made tonight.

I think Monett and Cassville were a package deal when divisions were set. As well as Aurora and Mt. Vernon. Based on this and geography it wouldn't work.

Only going to be six conference "division" games next year and THREE cross-overs. The "natural rivalry" idea may have worked for those two but for the others it would have been a stretch. As a whole I am looking forward to the new look Big 8.

No Package deal the division were worked out by location and ease of drive. But Monett and Aurora could have still been played.

I agree with you that Monett and Aurora should still play...I'm not sure your statement that they have played in 89 straight years. I saw something that stated the 2 teams have played since 1904 and that there were 2 years in the mid 1930's that they did not play. I also saw where the records of the 2 teams within the rivalry were remarkably even. The document I saw is from Aurora and I know you are from Monett so maybe their history of the rivalry is a little different than yours.

Just going by the local paper and that is what they had said, and if you take 2017 and subtract 89 years from that you come up with around 1928 they did not play, but either way it's pretty close. Just a shame they will not play every year going forward expect on a cycle. Considering this dates back to like you said 1904 and it's been a good one.
