Last night Fort Zumwalt South senior guard EJ Bellinger reached two milestones. In the second quarter, he broke Preston Whitfield's school record of 1989 points and in the third quarter, he became the first Bulldog to exceed 2000. He finished with 28 points in the game and ends his high school career with 2011.

Bellinger will play next season at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. He is a great person and it has been a privilege to follow his senior season.

Good report nwlions. How did big Howell 26-2 coached by my friend coach Curt Jacob defeat a good Zumwalt South team 79-44. Is this a misprint? If this score is correct, How good is Howell ?

Class 5 bracket:

District 1-------Jackson----18-10
District 2-------Mehlville----22-7

District 3------Eureka-------16-10
District 4------CBC----------21-7
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Class 5 bracket

District 5-----McCluer North----25-3
District 6-----Haz. Central-------16-12

District 7-----Big Howell----------26-2
District 8-----Battle----------------20-7

There appears to be big time favorites in the above but it the quarters, the pickings is more difficult.

Metro-dude, to answer your question, it basically was that FZS had its first bad game at an unfortunate time. The Bulldogs battled through a number of early-season injuries (including Bellinger out seven games) and played at a high level for 3+ months before last night. (The two previous losses were Parkway Central when Bellinger and Patton were injured and a 1-point loss to Sikeston that until Thursday, was the closest Sikeston had come to losing all year.) Nothing went right for the Bulldogs last night.

I hope that last night's game doesn't define the Bulldogs season. As many of you know, I spent most of my teaching career at Northwest, where toward the end of my time, we were losing 23+ games yearly, with an 0-26 season in 2014-2015. To be part of this 24-3 FZS season was an incredible experience. The players played with incredible heart, overcoming adversity and doubters, and after last night's game, our JV coach told the players how much joy they brought to people the past few months.

I have posted game summaries of all the regular-season games on my Twitter @RdTripsRtsRoyals and encourage you to follow me.

Well said, nwlions, a great season by the Zumwalt South Bulldogs.

We must also give credit to the Howell Vikings 26-2. The Vikings have not lost a game in 2019, won 17 straight games and 24 out of their last 25 games. Howell will be a heavy favorite in their sectional game against Columbia Battle 20-7. Howell's quarter final game most likely against McCluer North 25-3 is probable a toss up with a slight lean toward the Curt Jacob coached Howell Vikings.

Congrats to the Zumwalt South Bulldogs 24-3 and a 15 game winning streak before the district final.
