St. Louis University G Fred Thatch, Jr (Sikeston) basketball career has ended due to an ACL injury. He announced he will forego one remaining year of eligibility. Besides being a great player, he also excelled in the classroom, earning his bachelor degree with honors and currently working on his master degree.

Congratulations on all of his accomplishments to an outstanding young man.

That's right, I remember reading that now. Pretty awesome doing all that while playing DI basketball.

That really stinks!!! I love watching him play for the Billikens..... On the positive side because of his hard work in the classroom despite his injury he has plenty of options available to him... I think he would be a heck of a basketball coach just watching how he has played in college but with his education He can do whatever he chooses to do as a player, coach or whatever he wants,

I wish more of our in state D I players would see the advantage of playing at SLU or Mizzou for when their playing days are over. With Thatch's education, reputation, and local celebrity status in St. Louis, I would imagine all the big corporations in the STL area would love to hire him. The STL Post reported he has a bachelor in marketing, a master degree, and working on a PhD in supply chain management. I think Fred may be too smart to be a coach!! ;)

Sum it up this way. Would you prefer to deal with some thorny supply chain issues or some whimpering parents or community members who think they know more about _____________ball than you do?

That was my point bc of his education he could start in his career of choice, play one more year, maybe dive into coaching if that something that possibly interests him... My point being the man has plenty of options...
