Fred Bouchard steps down at Shawnee Mission East

One of three things.

1. Kids weren't responding to way he wanted to do things.
2. Administration above him not letting him do things his way.
3. Money.

If I recall, I believe he has made at least one other move in a nontraditional manner.

Kansas Football is different, At Staley he would run 6 hour a day summer workouts. starting at 6 am. maybe he couldn't get the commitment. I'm not sure you need to do all of that to win in kansas tho. Miege only goes about 2 hours a day and they whip everyone.

Bouchard is leaving to take a position in the central office of a school district in Illinois. He said he was excited about the new opportunity. Bouchard said he couldn’t pass it up and there were some challenges he faced at East.

“I think there is a great opportunity in front of me,” Bouchard said. “I’ve turned down other opportunities in the spring.

“I tried here but there was probably a philosophical delta that we were unable to close.”

And we see why the Kansas schools were 3-17 in the suburban showdown vs. Missouri.

The coach before him left because of differences with the administration, something like that, haven't read the article in a while. Maybe Fred Bouchard had the same issues.

Previous guy cited frustrations and problems with the admin. https://shawneemissionpost.com/2017...s-with-district-athletic-administration-67487

“What led me to resign was things that I saw people doing at the district level that were not in the best interest of kids,” he said. “When it became clear that some of the decisions they were making were more about the adults involved than the students, I decided I couldn’t be a part of that.”

“I might not even coach next year. After dealing with some of the things from our district, it’s kind of made it sour to do my job every day.”

Anyhow, good luck to him. In coaching, in the business world and anywhere, you can get fired over silly circumstances. Better to look out for numero uno then stick around in a job you don't like and likely result in being frustrating and miserable. Any of us could drop dead tomorrow and they would fill the job before last flower turned brown on our grave.

Someone big in the admin is what my dad (who spent 30 years involved with schools) would call a "chicken sh*t." Just a hunch.

I had the utter privilege of chatting with him a few years back. Regardless of circumstances he is one heckuva guy and I hope nothing but the best for him and his family.

No doubt on of the best human beings you will ever meet. He takes his job serious and he isn't playing around, he wants to win and he wants kids to do what it takes to win. Maybe its a stereotype but i'm not sure Mission kansas has what it takes to play for him.
