LBJ was effective at leaning on congressmen to vote the way HE wanted them to. No president these days could pull that off, it's different world in DC now. Not too sure LBJ was very good at anything else, but he did have sense enough to NOT to run in the next election.

It's a different world, no doubt, but he pushed for a number of transformative programs that were successes, and he raised taxes to pay for his war instead of passing the buck.
