Comet Neowise is visible to the naked eye. Look in the NW sky right at sunset. Not as spectacular as Hale-Bopp, but still cool. Here's a shot I got tonight...

July 22 is supposed to be the peak.

From the backyard at 80 min after sunset 10:50 MDT. Used the phone with 15 sec exposure (max) pointed below the Big Dipper. Couldn't see it naked eye.

This was about an hour later just before it disappeared below the horizon.

It's going to get significantly dimmer from here. Could faintly see it naked eye tonight. Hope y'all got to see it, as there's not much better than seeing a comet or large meteor shower.

Yeah, I screwed that up. It's the closest approach to Earth, but obviously will be dimmer as it moves away from the Sun.

Okay, I’ll need to find a place tonight to view it, then. Too wooded around here to see much of the open sky.

I imagine the light pollution and humidity will prevent most of us from getting the views you’re getting in Idaho.

I was out in the deserts of Utah last summer. The sky at night was awe inspiring.

I really miss the night skies out west. I was a tortoise biologist in Vegas for four years. One project I was on, the crew I had to escort on site liked to get there at 5am. The crew was working inside a walled in transmission line substation in the middle of no where. I would escort them onsite, then sit in the bed of the work truck and watch the skies. I miss that project.

On a side note, during that same project, I got to work on the Nevada Test Site. Home of Area 51. Had to take several security classes and pass a rigorous background test. The test site had some permanent biologists, who have been working there 40+ years. They had some stories!

If you look at my picture there's a lot of lights in the area. Just get out of town a ways and you should be fine. I'm not driving an hour into the wilderness.

Look where the comet was in my picture last night in relation to the dipper. It will be slightly up and left in relation tonight. Went to Best Buy today to get a tripod attachment for my phone so I can improve from a Michael J. Fox 2% steady rate to something less frustrating.

Tonight was amazing. We could see it naked eye for over an hour, probably due to a longer tail.

I'll have to try that. I always used the, "I need your opinion on something." line. Worked pretty well until she saw A Few Good Men and then her stock reply was; "You can't handle my opinion!"
