Football is almost over. It is time to watch basketball

I have watched a lot of summer basketball probably over 50 games. I realize summer basketball can be a false/positive but who is going to be good this year?

Webb City looked really solid in SWMO. Although the Washington kid being out will hurt them, they have a lot of size and speed. They split their varsity a lot of the summer because of all the depth.

Carthage has the Templeman and Ray kid who will make up a tough swmo backcourt, but will be really small.

Joplin has the Wright kid who might be the best player between Springfield and KC.

Seneca looked good this summer, they return their entire team.

I'm very interested to see how Nixa looks in year #1 without JO. Combs kid should make them really good regardless.

Kickapoo lost a lot but should still be the class of the OC IMO with the shorter kid and others.

Anyone have a KC or STL breakdown?

The SCA maybe as wide open as any year in the history of the conference. Every team that was good last year has dropped back to the pack.

West Plains will have a bunch of height and athleticism but can that translate into wins on the court? Not sure.

I like Republic as sneaky pick to win the COC. Think Nixa, Ozark,Webb, and Joplin round out the top 5 no specific order.
In the Ozark Conf, have to start with Poo, but Bolivar will be a load as well and Parkview even though losing a lot should still be highly competitive.

Republic should be good as well. Askew vs Combs should be fun.
Does Bolivar have pieces around Pock still?
And yes. Simpson will have Parkview we’ll schooled.

Not the same pieces around Pock as last year, but they did get a transfer in that is a good shooter. Should still be a top 10 maybe top 5 class 5 team.

In KC, Staley is stacked again . Multiple D1 kids and a great coach.
Are there any other forums for Missouri high school basketball. So few posts compared to football here.

I'd say as the playoffs start to wrap up, and b-ball gets rolling there will be a lot more activity. FB is king, but there are also a lot more schools/communities in the state with b-ball programs. No one has even had a jamboree yet, once those start rolling we will see a lot more action.

Class 3 Champion Charleston has everyone back, so they have to be a favorite in class 3. NMCC returns a lot and I think will get past Vashon this year depending on who Vashon moves in this year.

Saw PJ Farmer play a few times this summer. Not the biggest kid but can really play. He will probably be the glue for Charleston. Also saw the Webb kid play from North Kansas City another one that isn’t very big but can sure play.

There was a team that would be sophomores mostly I think called the SEMO Blazers that were one of the most dominant teams in the country through middle school. Think they were headquartered out of the Charleston area, but I know the kids were probably from all over.

KC area - think Park Hill will be strong along with Staley, PH has the Bell twins and super athletic/fast senior group, may just not be able to match up with the strength of Staley. Staley needs it to happen this year, they are loaded in this senior class. They have some young talent but unless they get some move-ins then will take a step back after this year. North KC, Oak Park, PHS, Liberty & Liberty North will be young but have some talent coming up the ranks. I don't know much about the LS teams (three of them), RayPec and BS/BSS teams but they will always be decent with good coaching and a new group of hungry kids. I am sure there are others I am missing since most of these are the larger schools, but should be a fun year in the KC area.

Oak Park is really good too, their game(s) with Staley will be battles.

I think OP wins state next year or 2025 (or both) if they keep that crew together. Their sophomores kicked the crud out of people in 8th grade. Don't think anyone was within 20 of them. Maybe they could convince the sophomores Wilson or Webb to leave Staley or NKC. That would just be unfair to everyone else. LOL

I doubt he ends up at OP, but I don't see Wilson sticking around SHS after this year.

I think he stays, good kid and great family. It will be his time to lead after sitting behind some great talent for a few years. He had a great summer in AAU and poised to be a big impact on this team regardless. I could see it more likely that Webb goes to SHS at some point with that connection, but both those HS coaches are connected to the same AAU club. Don't see Wilson heading to any other KC school, possibly a prep, but that would be about it. Do agree with OP though, that class can make some waves in KC and beyond.

Complete coincidence between that and the influx of hoops talent at those two schools, huh?
5 of Staley top 7 are NKC/Staley kids, one moved in from Plattsburgh his Freshman year and has been at SHS all 4 HS years, the other a move in from Platte County, a Sr in his 2nd year.

No coincidence at all, those kids all moved in for that purpose, just like all the LN/LSN football players moved in for that purpose. Public school recruiting is alive and well, some do it and some don't, makes me laugh when some start to point the finger at private schools only for doing it. Ross kid that had most of the offense for LN vs CBC literally played for two different schools, this year, after being allegedly expelled from one. If you can play they will find a way.

It turns out NMCC was moved down out of Vashon's class and into Charleston's, and they may very likely end up in an early-round playoff game against each other.
