Football classifications

How do districts start week 9? What about a 10 team league?

Wouldn't a cap on class 1 push most teams up in classes...at least if you are close to the line?

So football coaches recommended less football? Just an awful awful decision to start districts in week 9. Why? So football can be finished by thanksgiving and basketball gets their usual 24849 week season? Just mind-boggling. I’m under the assumption the football advisory board OKd that and then the board of directors voted on it.

I think the idea is most smaller schools are dropping to 8 man due to the disparity in enrollment from top to bottom.

Basically MSHSAA's inaction has caused a large number of the current 8 man teams to drop due to this.

i can't see how the football folks are ok with this.

Imagine your son getting hurt in a meaningless 10th game. Especially if he plays another sport. I wouldn't let my kid play in a meaningless 10th game.

If your only going to take top 4 in district after game 9 then state it. If your saying you win game 9 your in playoffs then great.

MEANINGLESS???

Back in my day there were only 4 CLASSES...and only 4 teams from each class made the play-offs. Most of us played in "MEANINGLESS" games most all year long.

So you wouldn't let your kid play in a "meaningless" 10th game? Why? To save himself to go on and play in some other "meaningless" sport before his way-too-short high school career is over and he's thrust out into the real world?

How did we get to the point where the MLB All-Star game, College Bowl games, and now high school even games are deemed ""MEANINGLESS???!!!"

Anytime they keep score...it matters.

All Star games are meaningless
WRONG BUCKO!
I know all my sons have played in every All Star game our Little League has held. They've carried the football most of the snaps in every game to earn it! Except for my 2nd son as he takes after his Uncle Delbert and never made weight. We just ran laterals to him so he could score all the TDs on that team.

Yes I know none of them went on to any success in high school!! That's because those coaches were jealous of my coaching record and couldn't develop talent.

The phrase “meaningless” games has always ticked me off too. I’m old as dirt and played before the playoff system. Since we didn’t have a chance for a recognized state championship I guess all of our games were “meaningless”. Thank goodness it didn’t feel that way when were playing…

What if he just likes football and really wants to play that 10th game of his senior year - even if it’s two 0-9 teams playing - just for the chance to strap on the pads one last time?

I am not saying no one would play. Look at college bowl games as a guide.

If the 10th game is not going anywhere I would have a hard time telling them we got to play this.

Yes. SOME kids will move on to their winter sport rather than play this game.

In a small school some is a lot. If the right some don't play it can be a big difference. The state has already made it tough on all sports but especially football when they allowed practice of other sports during the season.

Because the games that Really matter happen on Sunday in a junior High gym in the Bronze bracket in suburban Milwaukee, or on the baseball diamond in June in the No Scout Showcase getting three at-bats against Johnny Wallet.

Those are the games that Really “matter” to this generation of parents.

First time I have ever been called BUCKO in all caps.
Over-the-top for comment for sure...sort of like Schwatrz's "breech of etiquette" when he went directly to the "Triple Dog Dare" to get Flick to stick his tounge on the frozen flag pole.

Then how soon will the 9th game be meaningless and we will be talking about going to only 8 games with 7 being regular season? Where will this end?

You going to give the kids some swag merchandise and take them to a Sunny Location to play the 10th game? Your College bowl analogy is not all that valid.

I agree kids would opt out of the game if not meaningful and they play a winter sport. I think Fans will really opt out of those games. Parents would show but a 10th game just to end the season with possible bad weather and travel for one teams fan base? Why not just stay home and watch on streaming or listen on radio.

The current system isn't accurate.

Adrian 43.06

Butler 52.64 Adrian wins 29-18
Marionville 53.56 Adrian wins 26-14
Monroe City 53.99 Adrian wins 32-16

Quit the dang bellyaching and play the games.

Most of the coaches and parents I talk to like the current system, Most parents especially seniors parents think the season ends way to fast especially when you will never get to see your child suit up again after that last game.
So how many on this board who are actual against the current system are coaches or true parents? Or are they just fans who have never suited up and are b8tching about what they perceive to be a meaningless game?
If they had Moved to points system this year Seniors from Monett would never have been able to play that one more game, they would have never been able to prove on the field they were way better than Rogersville who had way more points, they would have been already checking in thier gear.
I just don't get how a true fan of the game or anybody who has actually suited up and had to play that last game no matter the outcome can want to shorten the season for so many current players because they don't want to watch a meaningless game? What game is ever meaningless to a true football player?

I assume most here have suited up. We have a good thing now except I would like to see us done the weekend after Thanksgiving. Someone needs to step and te the state to quit screwing with stuff. I will say the 10 game for no reason is stupid.
