Went to Class 1 Semis last night. Leeton's coach subbed offense/defense the whole entire game. Which was interesting. So they sub the more athletic kids in to play D, which makes sense, but it's not like they were running some sort of mind bending offense. The ran the flex, the flex, and kept everybody inside about 12 feet. Super tight spacing, it had to be part of the game plan, I was just trying to figure out the logic. Could the really athletic kids not run the flex? I feel like that would have allowed more flow to the game. I had never seen it, and it was just a head scratcher. Did anybody else notice that, or come up with an explanation?

They sub one or two guys on every dead ball. I wouldn't necessarily say it was offensive-defensive subs because they all can run the flex and play good defense. They have the depth to play 8 guys a ton of minutes and they're always pretty fresh at the end of games and are able to play hard every second they're out there.

Wish your advice had reached the coach prior to the game. They might have gone further than 3rd or 4th in state this year.

This was the first time I watched them play, so you guys might know more than me about it. But I know for a fact, that 3 kids subbed on to play D, got Winston to throw it out of bounds, and the same 3 kids came directly off. They played literally 3 and a half seconds. Wasn't the only time I saw that. By watching their style I assumed they were a "grind it out" type team, especially at 28-2! But I took a look at some of their scores from this year and they were lighting up the scoreboard with 70 and 80 point nights. I guess I don't see the flex as an offense that is so tought to guard where a team can go get 65+points per game. Did their defense create a lot of points throughout the year? I know they only had 35 last night and was curious if they were extra patient due to gameplan or just had a rough night scoring the basketball....

Green and Black, it's simple curiosity. You'll never hear me say I am better/smarter than anyone. Mainly because it's not true! Lol.

Congrats to them on a heck of a season and good luck in the 3rd place game.

Coach Mills knows what he's doing. You don't get close to 700 wins and taking 3 different teams to the final four if you don't know what you're doing. They won a championship in every tourney they played in and they were the only Leeton boys team ever to win a sectional and quarterfinal game and make it to the final 4. I would take that anytime.
