In 3 weeks we'll be converging in Columbia for the class 1-2-3 Show-Me Show Down. This year the class 3 boys & girls and class 1 girls will be contested in the Hearnes Center on Thursday in semi-final action.

Some folks love the up close atmosphere of the Hearnes Arena while others think it has out lived it's usefulness. The big parking lot will soon be converted to the softball complex. Don't know where we are expected to park in the future...
Personally I enjoy the opportunity to attend a few games each year in the old bowl but I do enjoy the modern comforts of Miz-Zou Arena...

Checkout the link below for about everything you need to know about the fast approaching final-four 1-2-3 & 4-5...
Cya there...

I prefer watching at the Hearnes Center. It has a better atmosphere for basketball than the Arena does. And I agree.... where is anyone going to park without that lot????

I myself enjoy watching games at the Hearnes Center better than Mizzou Arena. Don't know that I can identify why, just feels like you are closer to the action maybe.

The parking lot is going to be expanded mostly south and this is supposed to be done before they actually start taking away current parking for the softball stadium. The Atheltic Department claims that there will still be the same amount of parking available after the stadium is built as there is now. But, obviously it may be a little farther walk from whereever you may be going.

I can't imagine from a playing or coaching standpoint how great the Hearnes is, but as a spectator the atmosphere is perfect. It feels like you are right on top of the game and that place gets loud. Watching Sacred Heart and Iberia play semifinals in there last year felt like when I was a kid watching the 90's Tigers. Mizzou arena is comfortable, but it just feels so distant from the game.

Obviously there are many advantages to Mizzou Arena, but as far as watching a game there is no comparison. Hearnes Center is far more exciting.

Hearnes is also easier to get around in. You can walk in and look the place over to see where you want to sit or who you see that you know and go there. In Mizzou Arena if you take the wrong tunnel down you have go back up steps and find the right one for the section you want unless the pace is empty and you can walk through any row you want.

Thank the suites for that. Man, those things totally screw up an arena. JQH has same problem. Granted it's a touch less claustrophobic, but still a pain. I'd much rather watch the games in Hearnes, except for the nasty volleyball floor they play on. And the concessions kind of stink. Bathroom situation is probably a toss up. Sorta wish MU would spend some cash and keep Hearnes a bit more current than they do. I see that place slowly turning into a McDonald arena type thing...As for atmosphere for a game, there's just ZERO comparison in the two.

Agree on the isles. Not a fan of Mizzou at all but pretty much all arenas are that way now.

IMO the Q is much better to watch a game in than Mizzou. You feel much closer to the action. Mizzou is so flat it seems like you're across the street watching.

Totally agree, much rather see a game in the Q than the Page. I was merely speaking about how the suites foul up the ability to navigate around the arena. It's like MU decided to go from one extreme to the other on the slope. And also made the decision to just chop it up in to as many sections as possible.

I agree that JQH is a better place to attend games than Miz-Zou Arena. Maybe there are some around that remember Brewer Field House. If it was the Tigers or State tournaments, it had real atmosphere.

Hearnes will be gone in five years or less. Watch them build a smaller arena for volleyball/wrestling/gymnastics and then demolish Hearnes for parking.

That's what's going to happen. It's really expensive maintaining Hearnes at this point. Especially since they don't need something that big for those sports. A new one can be designed for just what they need and operate much cheaper.
