We are taking a field trip on June 13th and 14th and we are changing things a little bit. Plans to start posting pictures of all fields at the school. We are heading to the SW and are going to Joplin. We noticed on Google maps that there is two stadium, which one do they play their games on? Any place we should not miss in the area? We may even get into Oklahoma and Kansas.

There is a nice turf field on the JHS campus (20th & Indiana) but they play their games at Junge Field which is a stand alone facility a few blocks west of Main Street on 13th/Junge Blvd - it's kind of an odd spot to get to.

In the Joplin area the two must sees are Joplin (historic, unique) and Webb City (large seating, noteworthy program). Next I'd add Carthage (new nice setup - building indoor facility next to stadium) and then CJ if you have time, which btw is practically next door to Webb City so why not. You could easily get all of these in a loop. Neosho is about 30 min south if you had more time to spare.

A few others that come to mind in the larger SWMO area - Mt Vernon, Ozark, Republic, Branson, Reeds Spring. Maybe Monett as well. Sarcoxie has a new turf field. It would take a long time to get to all those though esp Branson and Reeds Spring.

The stadium where PHS plays in Pittsburg KS is an old rock stadium that is kind of cool. I think it's at the Jr High not the high school. If you did make the trip over there the bigger attraction is PSU's impressive D2 facility.

I have no idea about NE Oklahoma.

Greenfield has a neat setup

If your going all that way you might as well hit all those towns in the sw. Diamond use to have a stump in the middle of their practice field or maybe game field. While your down there you should see if you can find the spook light.

Nevada ,El Dorado Springs, Stockton. Clever has a nice sports complex. Seneca should be visited while the Indians are playing.

I have actually been to a playoff game in Seneca back in the 80’s when I was scouting for Windsor. But it is one place my Son and I have not been to. We do need to get to Clever.

a old civil war soldier that is in a ball of light, down in that area along the border, great old article on it in the Missouri conservationist that you might be able to find, it has been recorded about for over a 100 years

Interesting stuff. How has it been linked to a Civil War soldier though? I remember reading a story similar to this one. Train conductors kept seeing a ball of light, along a stretch of specific set of tracks. I believe a slave had been hit and killed there.

If you end up detouring into Oklahoma, I can definitely recommend Broken Arrow and Tulsa Unions fields. Been to both. Union’s is unreal.
I've only seen pics and driven past (never stopped), but just wow. They are quite the facilities.

I went to both about 4-5 years ago. Just happened to be in the neighborhood to see Broken Arrows. But got a tour of Unions entire facility(field, weightroom, locker rooms and coaches offices) from an employee and it was just ridiculous lol. If I remember correctly, I think under armour may have donated the Jumbotron they use down there.

You should take a (major!) detour up to Princeton and check out our new facility.

Do they have spooklights?
Spooklights are peppery!
And you all accuse us Doc Guys of thread hijacking!!

A Jasper to Lockwood to Miller To Greenfield To Ash Grove To Willard swing would be about 100 miles total and less than 2 hrs driving time. Didn't see any of those on your web site.
Jaspers field is up and down hill. Lockwood and Miller feature parking next to the field. Greenfield is cut in the side of a hill. AG and Willard are recently renovated.

And Jasper has the Mo. N. Ar. tracks right by the field. Always expect a slow moving train with the driver laying on the horn. On the visitors side of course.

Could see Jasper on the way to Joplin and then hit the purple turf after Joplin or Carthage then Miller, Lockwood, etc. Lots of new fields for the site with minimal driving. Day 2 could go to SCA or maybe Stockton, Eldo, Butler, Adrian, etc.

The Seneca football field hasn't changed much over the last few years. New bleachers, Home team now on the north side, new scoreboard a few years ago. Still grass, and Tom Hodge still at every game.
If you want to see the Baseball fields, take Oneida street west to Oklahoma, just past the casino / bull riding building.

Have been to Princeton since they built their new place. I will probably get back, my son and his family are moving back to Trenton.

Love the grass. Late summer-early fall, freshly mowed grass and concession stand smells, the buzz in the crowd as teams warmed up. Then grass stain, dirt and occasionally blood on the white pants. Real football. Some years rain and mud games
required totally different game plans. Really fun games to play in or coach. Actually, a different sport than turf ball. I've got to get down there and catch a game. I'm relegated now to mostly class 1 and 2 games and many of them, with the help of major donors, have gone the turf route also.

I still remember the fog game in 83 down there in Seneca, fog rolled in so thick that you could not see the other sideline. We put the only loss to them that year in the regular season. Fog was the 12th man that game.

Junge is the field they play on but you need to go by the high school they have a football field there that most schools would love to have. Baseball, soccer, softball and another football field all at the high school.

I would also go see Carthage's new stadium has to be one of the nicest in this area. Republic also just built a new Stadium so if you are going to Clever you might stop off there.

83 huh? Seems like that was a pretty big year all over the place!

I remember that one. It must have been a good game, but the only ones in the stadium who could tell were on the sidelines or on the field..

I'll be interested to know where you end up going and what you think!

Reminds me of a West Plains game about 15 years ago or so. I can’t remember who they were playing, but remember from the stands, you would see the quarterback release a pass and once it hit about 20 feet in the air the ball would disappear and you wouldn’t see it again until it came down either caught or incomplete haha

I played a game on that field once upon a time. Assuming it hasn’t changed in the last 12 years. I believe it had just been built the summer before that year.

Tell me how to attach a photo on here and I'll put one up for your inspection.
