Hopefully if nothing changes our plans we are going on a field trip next weekend. We have never been to the St. Louis area but that is our goal. My son has plotted around 35 to 40 fields on Saturday. Then we will see where we are at for Sunday. Are there any fields in St. Louis that are must sees? We have seen that there are a lot of fields in a closes area.

You be careful among the heathen.

They play at a middle school (Hickson middle I believe). It’s off of Elm ave off 44 not to far north of 270

Haven’t been there for a couple years but they were one of the few left that still has natural grass. Think it still is

Have you seen the new turf/track and updates at Fort Osage?

Kind of sad seeing all the grass fields going away. I know fieldturf more economical long term but starting to look so cookie cutter now.

Two of the best grass fields left

Lamar

Maryville

I think Fort was the last of the C5/C6 schools with a grass field in the KC Metro.

I've heard from someone who studied both that a properly maintained turf field is not necessarily cheaper than a properly maintained grass field. People tend to only consider the costs of putting the turf field in. Admittedly, I have no knowledge of the dollars and cents and how to accurately compare. Just adding a point of view.

That's interesting ---maybe it depends what all the field is used for. If you have all football games, all boys and girls soccer games, and all marching band competitions, etc. in use. Carthage put in turf because their grass was a money pit to maintain. They said the cost to maintain the grass within 3-4 years--they could've bought turf. So I assume cost is the reason most schools have turf now.

Good point. Well, it is called a Football field, so, while I realize Soccer is referred to as football in other countries, they should have their own field. Same with the band. I'm joking. All that traffic on a grass field definitely makes a difference. Maybe I should have shortened my clarification statement to just "I have no knowledge."
