Anyone have any legit information on this....I've heard from more than a few people that none of the candidates made a major impression with the committee and that two people actually turned them down???? I find it hard to believe people not wanting to coach at a blue blood school with such incredible parental, community, and admin support. Look at the facilities!!!! They apparently are not finished either!!! Seems to dragging longer than a normal hire would and just wondering if I've missed something posted elsewhere.

Don't have any info on it. Agree they have nice facilities, blue collar mentality, a few dips here and there but for the most part have been successful since at least the 80's (as far as I go back). I know many would say coach Schmidt is a good guy, had the right intentions, and they ran him out. Some would look at that as not being very supported.

I do think that nowadays there is not as many coaches who want to be a head coach, or aren't willing to put in the time it takes to be a head coach. When I played, my head coach put in about 25 years, then went into admin for a few. All the assistants I played for were the same, with some coaching their whole career. Several coached multiple sports. Contrasted that with today, how many times do you see or hear of the coaches who want to spend more time with their family, go into administration after just a few year teaching, quit coaching to work on their master's degree, etc.

Just a thought.

Your observation of the evolving nature of the coaching profession is spot on. But considering the current societal attitude toward coaches and officials I can't say I blame any of them for getting out early. There are so damn many "experts" these days it makes it almost impossible to please.

Heard a former Tiger....from Mizzou (player and coach) was in town recently interviewing.

I heard they are trying to interview the "We Gotta Hit Somebody" coach from the stands; should be a good hire, knows everything without watching a lick of film.
One of the assistant coaches is gonna be "You gotta throw the ball" coach.

Vicious rumor!

Haha you know I love ya coach! I tell my students/players that Festus was a great rival for the SG(most look at me confused). Mutual respect from both sides. Every year I was in high school the district title came down to the last game of the year between us. And the words of encouragement you gave me didn’t fall on deaf ears. And three of the four years our teams were represented in the final four.

Plus you’re a Johnny Green Jeans now, you have plenty of time to cook burgers and hand out soadies!
