I realize this is trivial, but I was wondering this.

All of the other riots have been major cities. I don't know if they all occurred in the city limits of those cities, but we have heard about Baltimore, Cleveland, New York, LA (in the past). How did St. Louis get out of being labeled a part of the riots? How often are what happens near a city not labeled as part of that city?

I think if you talked to people from outside of St. Louis they might not share your opinion about St. Louis not being tagged as a part of it.

It mostly added confusion, like "how close is that to you since you live in the suburbs"

Um most(not all, just so you're not confused) people associate Ferguson with Saint Louis.

Really? So every article I read, every news story on tv says Fergusson, not St. Louis. Associated or not. It's not the St. Louis riots, it's the Fergusson riots, but it's the Baltimore riots, Cleveland riots, NY riots, etc. It may be associated, but it's not labeled as such.

Every time I watched CNN, they said we are in Ferguson. They seldom mentioned St. Louis.
