Next weekend will be the first time since 2009 that neither Webb City or Lamar will be competing for a state championship in football.

Unreal run representing the Southwest corner of Missouri between those two programs.

As for the SWMO corner as a whole? First time since 1985 that Southwest Missouri will not have a program representing the area in the state championships. 1985.

The site for state finals that year? Busch Stadium.

I think it's 1991. Either way, heck of a run. Also don't think 1988 had swmo rep either

Thank you for providing the answer (1985) to the question I was about to ask. Quite a streak by the slow rural kids here in SWMO.
I know you are being facetious. Truth being known the blueprint/path for STL to own this year's playoffs has been there since district pairings came out. The west side has owned this sport for so long it is past time for the east to start evening the score. The Lou is LOADED with great athletes right now.

Kind of weird not seeing Webb,Lamar or Valle in the finals
We are living this to an even higher degree in KTown having been knocked out long before these big rounds even occur. Fingers crossed that changes in 2019.

This is a straight copy/paste of something I posted in a similar thread:

Things have a way of balancing out; it’s almost capitalist in a sense (though I’m NOT trying to be political). The rest of the state (especially in Class 2) had the choice to sit idly by while teams like Lamar and Webb kept winning titles, or to step up their games by whatever means necessary; meanwhile the law of diminishing returns was eventually going to catch up with teams with like Lamar and Webb.

You can question the means all you want, im still MASSIVELY impressed with what was clearly a concerted effort by STL area schools over the last few years to catch up with the West, and in my opinion, it’s good for Missouri football as a whole!

Now it’s the West that will be playing catch-up to the STL area schools and Missouri Football will be better because of it.

For those who may think this creates a culture of haves and have-nots, you make the mistake of thinking that anything other than state title is a failure of a season; the rest of the teams in the state still have conference and district titles to fight for.

So is Lincoln Cardinal not considered SWMO.? They get love on O-Zone out of Springfield. So I thought they would be part of the Family? Up by Lake of the Ozarks?? Go Luck to them and the rest of the State qualifiers

You need to move BFE to the metropolis where my Dad grew up............Hilda MO. :) and east south along 160 to about Gainesville. Willow Springs is God's country not BFE, either............:)

There are about 6 pockets of BFE, from Lebanon to Sedalia, and Lawson to Kirksville, Fulton to Rolla, and all of SE Missouri. Rusty cars in the yard, old appliances on the porch, homes with no wheels, and dust from a decade old, covering the garages and out buildings.

That picture is from 1997 when Nebraska won their last national championship! 21 years ago!! This one of Stef letting go of some bad old memories is much better!

yes... i didnt know that was captured on film. I thought it was just me and the ocean... letting go of all the torment and problems that bosko caused.
Two things here. One, thats not ME!!! That is former KU coach Mark Mangino! Second, I didnt cause you any torment or problems Stef. That was Coach Nickerson! All I did was set you down the right path that night in the Ampipe pool hall!
