Any early-season tournaments out there anyone wants to discuss? I know the Frisco League people will want to blow this thread up :D We may just need a site for Frisco League Basketball chatter! I cannot think of any early season tournaments off the top of my head...HELP!

Doesn't Kickapoo host a Stephanie Phillips' Classic or something like that, early in December? I think there's also a Scallywag Showdown or something around Norwood, as well.

Not 100% but I think:

Kickapoo
Republic
Licking
Rolla
Parkview
Glendale
Hartville
Central

Off topic, but I saw recently that Bourbon is starting a tournament this year, anyone know who is in that?

Bourbon
Crocker
Grandview (Hillsboro)
Houston

I searched some schedules on MSHSAA and I found these 4 teams for sure listed on their schedules

Kickapoo runs a great start of the year tournament. They normally bring in a couple out of area teams. Rogers Heritage, Har-Ber, Jeff City, St. Clair have all been in it in the last couple years.

Fair Grove has a pretty good smaller school tournament in the beginning of December as well.

I think Eugene has one in late November/early December if memory serves correctly. Fatima, Belle and Eugene in that one, should be good fun!

There are several good tournaments early in the year with mostly class two, three, and four schools. Just looking around MSHSAA a little bit these are some of tournaments before Christmas break. There will be a lot of state ranked teams in these tournaments if it's the teams that are usually in them.

The SEMO Conference tournament, Fredericktown tournament, Fair Grove tournament, Sullivan tournament, Eugene tournament, Ash Grove tournament.

The Sullivan Tournament is always tough. The Shetley kid is the real deal. I heard she was committed to CC...was this a package deal with her sister...I saw she was on the CC roster now. I would bet it'll be St James playing Sullivan in that one.

The Eugene tournament looks to be a three-team parlay between Eugene, Belle, and Fatima. I am going to take Eugene in their own tournament. They seemed to settle in towards the end of last year.

Shetley will be a load this year!
If St. James and Sullivan play for the championship it should be a battle. St. James’s zone makes it hard for Shetley to get rolling at times. They battled last year as well.

I would have to take Fatima in the other tourney mentioned above. Smith from Belle will be good but needs some more help. Eugene has some size and a good guard but Fatima has size and shooters with the ability to push and guard.

Ready for some basketball that is for sure.

Im not sure who is all back at the Sullivan tourney this year, but Ill just go off of last years same team. First Ill go off the teams that were in the Championship game last year.

Helias: Not sure who is all back with Helias, but they beat Sullivan in a great game. I would expect the will have the athletes to be good this year also.

Borgia: Probably should have won the game against Helias, but it was one of the games where the shots just didn't fall. They have a some height coming back and a guard who can see the floor from end to end really good. The beat St. James pretty handily. They always seem to have some athletes to run a good press.

Sullivan: Has a lot coming back, and most of them are players that mattered. They lost a great game to Helias. To be honest they should have never made that contest, as they struggled to beat Salem in another great match. I think they will be one of three teams who should make the championship game, and probably will be the #1 seed if Helias doesn't get it.

Cuba: Cuba along with Salem will be the two surprising teams in my opinion. I think they have a lot coming back and they have a few guards and other players who play the game solidly.

Salem: I think I could repeat what I said with Cuba. IF the returning guard is back this year, they will be surprising quite a few teams. She was quick, could shoot, and might be the best guard in the tourney. If she had a little more help they would have easily won the Sullivan game.

St. James. Im not quite sure why you posted you think it might be them in the championship game. They really struggled last year all year long, and I just didn't see them having the athleticism as the other teams I listed above. But the one thing they will have going for them is that they always seem to be well coached.

Owensville: Was a team that got better and better last year as they finished the year by beating sullivan and st. clair before losing to rolla in district finals. Their main player did graduate and Im not quite sure what they have coming back.

Northwest Cedar Hill; I just cant really tell you what they have coming back. They lost all 3 games at the tourney, but have no idea of the roster and who they lost, so it wouldn't be fair to comment on them.

Overall this should be a fun tourney to watch again

I think that people are unaware of how difficult St James' schedule is year in and year out. Did they have a great record...no...but I can promise you that the majority of Class 3 teams wouldn't have had a winning record against that schedule.

Helias lost a good bunch of their core...and the rest of those teams have big question marks coming in to the season outside of Borgia.

I am probably wrong but I will stick to my prediction of Sullivan vs St. James

Not saying you will be wrong. Im just basing off of what I saw. You are correct the last few years the 4 rivers has been some great competition. Who outside have they played can I ask? They always seem to be well coached like I said, so I wouldn't count them out, great program. Ill also stand by what I said that this should be a very fun tournament to watch. Will also be interesting where with the new changes what districts will look like this year.

No doubt!

Non-Conference Opponents Last Year:

Class 5 - Francis Howell
Class 4 - Rolla (Quarterfinals)

Class 3 Teams who were loaded: Blair Oaks/Fatima x 2/Liberty/Licking...I think all of these teams won 20 games and I know Liberty and Fatima were ranked in the top 10 at some point throughout the season.

add on conference foes Hermann, Sullivan, Owensville

Try Park Hills Central
Dexter Miller career st Joseph micd Helias Borgia plus new haven( final four) Owensville (final four) Hermann pacific Sullivan. All better than they are now

I'm not trying to argue here, the numbers are the numbers. If you want to trust your memory and gut feeling over the massive information database and analytics of a professional site, that's your prerogative. People tend to build up how difficult things were as more time goes by- walking to school uphill both ways, working fingers to the bone everyday, teams facing juggernauts the likes of which we don't see anymore every game, etc. Yeah, that one season had a very difficult schedule, but that's the only one notably more difficult.

That should be a good tournament though. My money would be on Sullivan and Shetley.

Hey I had to walk up hill both ways when I was a kid in Hendrickson, Mo. I lived on top of a hill, had to go down across the bridge over the creek then up hill to school, then down the hill to the creek and back up hill to the house. I guess I also walked down hill both ways. :p

I will go with my experience in the game
