Trinity only gets 7 games this year before districts. Their opening opponent decided
in the summer that wouldn't open with Trinity and Clayton wouldn't play Lutheran
North so Priory and Clayton played each other. Then this past weekend Dubourgh
who only has 30 total players with 10 being frosh and with many upperclassmen
being hurt they decided it could be dangerous to play Trinity. Trinity has out scored
its 3 opponents 185 to 0 and very little in second half. I think if a school feels it is
dangerous for their kids to play the game should not be played. I have seen dubourgh
it would be a very difficult thing to see that really would think the game would be stopped if
the game was played. If my son is a frosh playing against the big physical players from
Trinity No way I let him play. I think the other opponents on Trinity schedule will play them.
Their district only has 6 teams so they will play the first game and if Lutheran North beats them
in championship they will only get 9 total games. Trinity schedule is a joke but Lutheran North
plays a very good schedule and will be more prepared in the game vs Trinity. I do admire the other
small schools that played Trinity , they where able to play the next week. I know the officials shortened the game in 2 of the 3 games they played to make the possibility of injuries reduced.

If only there was a class 2 team in South West MO that had an open date too...

Maybe it's just me, but this whole complaining about trinity being a private school and recruiting is getting old.
I don't condone such practices whatsoever, but there's nothing you can do about it so accept it and move on.
It's no different than Rockhurst, Valle, Helias, or any other private school program in the state.

Did they recruit? More than likely, yes, but who cares. Unfair this, unfair that, it's the world we live in now. Didn't seem to phase the Lamar players at all last year, they went to work and got it done.

Is it fair that Springfield schools have open enrollment and can choose which school they want to go to with the exception of Kickapoo? No, but none of the OC schools have control over that so no point in dwelling on it. Hell, if all the athletes that lived in Centrals district actually went to school at Central they'd probably be a bit better than they have been the last 10-15 years. Again, moot point, it is what it is.
If everybody worried about themselves as much as they did everyone else, there'd be a lot less negativity in the world.

No kidding, talk about timing being almost perfect....

I doubt anything would have changed had Dubourgh announced this earlier. Probably not advantageous for either team to have to show their cards before an inevitable matchup in the payoffs, but it would have been awesome for fans to get to see. Meet in the middle at Lebanon on Saturday and duke it out!!!

Probably a good thing...this game would have been brutal. Trinity has outscored three opponents 168-0...DuBourg has been outscored by it's four opponents 193-6.

This good would have served no purpose for either team imo.

ARTICLE from StL Today on the forfeit

DUBOURG FORFEITS TO TRINITY

For the second time in five weeks, the No. 1 area small school will not suit up for reasons outside of its control.

Citing significant injuries to its roster, DuBourg will forfeit its Archdiocesan Athletic Association game Friday at Trinity.

“We have 30 kids on our roster and 20 have injuries,” DuBourg athletics director Ryan Sykora said. “That leaves us with 10 healthy kids. We had 10 kids get hurt against Affton.”

The No. 1 small school and No. 2 team in the Missouri Media's Class 2 poll, Trinity (4-0) will be granted a 13-0 victory, the most points allowed under the state's postseason points formula that dictates how district tournaments are seeded.

Trinity was left without a Week 1 opponent when Priory broke its two-year contract. Priory played Clayton in Week 1 after Clayton dropped its first opponent from the 2016 season, Lutheran North. Despite its attempts, Trinity didn't secure a Week 1 opponent this year and had to take a bye.

The Class 2 runner-up last season, Trinity returned a significant chunk of its roster and much of it spent the nine-month off-season preparing for the coming season. That work will not be rewarded with nine regular-season games, the maximum allowed in Missouri.

“It's a shame, it's a shame for the kids,” Trinity athletics director Dan Grumich said. “That's the reward for all their hard work. Playing the games is what the kids want to do.”

DuBourg (0-4) has been outscored 193-6 by its first four opponents. It played Lift For Life (3-1), De Soto (2-2), Lutheran St. Charles (3-1) and Affton (1-3).

Trinity has outscored its first three opponents — Duchesne, Cardinal Ritter and O'Fallon Christian — 168-0.

DuBourg competes in Class 4 now that it co-ops its football team with Hancock. Sykora said the hope is that Hancock can help bolster the program's numbers going forward. DuBourg had to cancel its junior varsity season because of a lack of participation.

Sykora also is DuBourg's director of admissions. He insists this is a one-week hiccup in the life of a rebuilding program. He said he expects the Cavaliers will field a more robust roster the rest of the season and does not believe next week's Shoes Game with rival St. Mary's is in jeopardy.

The rest of DuBourg's schedule does not provide any relief as it has St. Mary's (4-0), Cardinal Ritter (3-1), Lutheran South (2-2) and Liberty (2-2) on the docket.

“We hope to play the rest of the season,” Sykora said. “We were beaten up going into Affton. I've been at DuBourg for seven years and this is the most injuries we've had.”

Grumich said that the loss of the game is tough for Trinity's players, and it's also a blow for the extended Trinity community. The cheerleaders, student body, alumni and fans will have one less home game to watch the most talented team in school history. Since it's inception in 2003, Trinity has won two district championships. Last year's playoff run was the first of its kind in school history. Before last season's 12-1 mark, the Titans' best finish was 8-4 in 2009.

In 2003, the first year Trinity was formed after combining the student bodies of St. Thomas Aquinas-Mercy and Rosary, Trinity finished 1-8-1 and that included a scoreless draw with DuBourg.

“The experience for the kids who don't play football,” Grumich said. “We only get four or five games at home.”

There's also the lost revenue from admission and concession stand sales. Grumich said it wasn't as significant as the students' experiences, but there is a bit of a financial hit that comes with not turning the lights on Trinity's sensational show Friday night.

Everything you said is spot on but incomplete. Trinity is the one whining that the sisters of the poor won't take their beatings. If you are making a monster team, schedule teams that can face up to it! It isn't like the quality of Trinities team was out of their control.

Trinity isn't whining. They get 13 District points plus the Class multiplier for the forfeit. They're a Class 2 team and they win (or have the last 2 years). Most larger schools won't play them because those schools stand to gain little beyond experience against a talented team. I probably don't have to explain how few coaches see value in that. They also have no control over the teams they play in conference. Quit complaining about how them being talented is somehow a crime.

There was an article posted full of whining from Trinity. Things like concessions, gate, and experience.

I don't consider that whining. Trinity didn't accuse Du Bourg of ducking them and run to the paper to vent. Was Trinity's Admin supposed to say the loss of a home game was going to have no affect on the school whatsoever? Any school that doesn't collect revenue from a home game will feel it. I suppose you feel differently? Whatever.

To clarify, SPS allows open enrollment to freshman only, with the exception of Kickapoo as you said (bc they are at capacity). Once they choose the school that is where they are. They must show they have physically moved into the district if they want to change schools after their freshman year.

I guess no comment wasn't in his vocabulary. I would have prefered that to whining about the petty things. If you can afford to "help" talented athletes find a place in the school, concessions shouldn't be a concern.
