Drop off in Webb City Defense?

I noticed they have four games with more than 16 points being scored on them in the first six games. Last year at this point, no one had scored more than 15. Their competition this year is about .500 at 17-16.

Overall, 13 ppg versus 10 ppg last year.

Same, better? What's going on here? Offensive production has dropped as well.. 37.5 ppg, versus 41? Injuries?

And the Oakland Raiders are 2-1, Alabama and USC lost on the same day, Rockhurst is unranked, Orange is the new black.......lmao.....maybe it was the blood moon or the water on mars is now messing with our natural selection. To be honest. Yes, injuries are playing a huge part and add in 5--60+ scoring plays it tends to add to the points. Webb has had a 300 yard passer against them and a 200 yard rusher but that was their entire offensive production. Points may be up but yardage is still normal. Give the kids props....they replaced some major talent in the backfield and d-line but they are coming into their own now. Bugs are starting to get worked out and it's paying off.

Coach Bilichik showed his team a horse race, and stopped the video at every quarter asking who they thought would win. Of course, it was a horse at the back that came back and won the race. Where you finish is all that matters.

Yeah. It's crazy that you can go 0-9 and win state now. But those systems are created by those who want 12th place little league teams to get a trophy.

I get it now...Blue Springs is jus sandbagging until districts... Brilliant. Every now and then, you do hear of a two or three win team that makes a good run somewhere when the playoffs start.

God forbid if the defense gives up a field goal or a couple touchdowns. Sounds like there might be a witch hunt if they give up another point. Webb City football rules, and all will bow to them

2014 was one of the best defenses in the history of WC. The D line was the best since Wistrom, Travis Brock, Chad Webb, & Adrian Wynn played together in early 1990's. 3 kids from the 2014 Dline signed letter of intents last Spring. 3 more from the secondary signed that day as well, including one who is seeing playing time as a true freshman at Minnesota.
So is the 2015 WC defense down compared to 2014?? Probably but that is not really a fair comparison. The defense has gotten better all season and will be just fine in the end.

The bar is so high at Webb City that having a very good defense is a area
of concern. Their defense is so well coached and the system is so sound that a small fall off is still head and shoulders better then all other class 4 teams.

Its not really been too bad of a rebuilding year though. When Webb has injuries in key positions and then does not have real strong performances against several weaker opponents as compared to the year before, we tend to notice from a few of the mosporters that they are experiencing short spurts of happy thoughts that are reflected indirectly in their posts. Its just like a sixth sense you build thats part of living with the tradition while also participating in mosports. Personally, I think Webb's coaching staff has seen the unfortunate injuries as as an opportunity to improve the backup QB and strengthen the team even more come playoffs. Pass defense still needs work. It is a weakness that could drive some posters towards happy thoughts. I can think of one team for sure that if they too can keep their QB healthy, happy thoughts will begin to make their way towards these threads. At this point my only real concern is whether I can get out of yet another thanksgiving with the in laws for a 6th straight year.

Webb is beatable, however its going to take a very strong team to do it. Tyson should be back soon so that should help

He played a little in key situations tonight. He didnt start but played a few series here and there. The biggest difference with webbs offense is they lack they quick strike they had last year. With kiente they could score pretty much anytime they wanted. Tonight and really all season the passing game has been poor. About 6 dropped passes tonight and 3 would have been touchdowns

But still plenty of games to get 100% target before the playoffs.

Yeah. They will be fine by playoffs but not having that one wr that can consistently make plays hurts them. Last year i thought webb played awesome against Kearney. However, kiente made big play after big play that game; remove him and its a fairly close game

Webb will be very rough to beat and they might be as good as last year. They just wont blow teams out because they will just grind it out and have alot of 10+ play scoring drives instead of a few quick strike scores here and there

I thought the Defense was the big difference in the Kearney game last year. Kiante played alright on O but thought we won that game by D and rushing. Harbin was a big loss on the recieving aspect from last year as well. Against Kearney Crane and another junior i believe dominated on D. I thought WEBB held them to like180 yards total O.

Webbs defense played probably as good as they played all year that game. Kiente did have at least 3 30 yard catches that game tho . 2 on diving catches. He aided the offense quite a bit . Like joey said; webb wins regardless but by not as much

Im really not sure how much of a drop off in O WEBB has this year
With Tyrod against cTOWN ROCK and Harber
2014 103 pts for 27 against
2015 116 pts for 46 against

O seems to be fine better w/ a healthy Tyson, D is a little behind but not bad.

Defense played great tonight. Gave up 5 4th down conversions on neoshos scoring drive tonight starting with the fake punt but other than that they were lights out

My only concern is their lack of passing success. If they run into a team that can consistently stop the run (and that might not happen) then they need to pick it up. Once tyson is 100% that might pick up but then again ; there isnt much you can do when you put the ball on the $ and its not caught

Weve seen that alot before we started getting the freaks like Zerkel and Daniels who caught everything you threw in their general direction.

Thats true but look at the very few games webb has lost in the last decade the constant is lack of backing the defense off the los. The passing game is a small part of their offense however it is super important

When a team puts 9 or 10 guys in the box and you cant make them pay then it makes it much more difficult to win. They might be good enough to overcome it regardless but if they get that clicking then they are unstoppable

definately agree with you not disagreeing in the importance of some form of being able to throw the rock downfield.

Kiante hurt Kearney on a couple big plays that helped increase the score. The previous year, Kearney was dead even with LSW in the Class 5 semis. But when LSW needed a first they would just do a fade to four star Harrison (easily the best athlete on the field--and the best in KC) and they could not stop him. Then big pass play for a TD, and game over. Without him, Kearney likely would have been in the Class 5 championship in 2013. Superstars can make a difference sometimes.

If Webb gets beat, I think the team to do it will be.............Webb. Meaning it will be beating themselves with turnovers and penalties. Too many silly (non-aggressive type) penalties and turnovers could undo this team as most any other. This D may not be quite as stingy or the offense quite as dynamic as some other Webb teams that have enable them to easily overcome adversity. That being said, the comparison is to other Webb teams and this team is still extremely good by most standards.

Go Cards!!
