They have increased their budget 200 million dollars in the last two years. Does not sound like a very well run operation for people that rely on begging for other people’s money

According to Semb, the current annual operating budget for the hospital system is $856 million — a figure that has risen by about $100 million in each of the past two years, while donation levels remained static, he said.

They started taking insurance's share of payments within the last few years, they are able to count on more than donations now. Plus they have a large endowment that backstops the business

Where did you see this? Just curious. I know they've been closing some and replacing them with more focused outpatient centers. E.g. here in STL, they effectively borrow Wash U docs given their case volume doesn't support having a big team of docs as full time employees, and they didn't need a fully staffed inpatient hospital like they used to have in Ladue when almost no one stays overnight anymore. They moved to that more focused facility in the CWE that is cheaper to run. If someone needs inpatient, they can place them in a bed at Children's.
