Do many teams still do old school two a days?

Assuming a lot do mainly 1 practice for a longer time with a break in between? In my day we did the 7-10 and 5-7 type practices. Main thing I remember was the heat, full pads most of the time, and u spent the entire time after the first practice dreading going to the next one.

Assuming more and more are doing something like 8-10 30, take an hr break, then 11 30-1 type of deal? With schools starting earlier, summer contact days, kids in better shape, and o and d concepts have already been installed - assuming old school true two and days not really necessary any more?

Can't have 2 a days the first week anymore and every other day next week. I see them going away bedfore to long.

I remember when I was a sophomore we had two a days for dang near a whole two weeks. First week morning and nights with a Maroon vs. White scrimmage serving as Friday night's practice, Saturday we had film, conditioning, and pictures with a Saturday evening of full contact team. Second week we were regular two a days on Monday and Tuesday then Wednesday and Thursday had before school and after school for the first two days of school. Friday we had thw Jamboree and Saturday film and conditioning. The next year is when I think they started making you do a few days buckets only, we were having two a days but nowhere near the extreme level we had them the year before. I think our first full pad hit day as a junior if I recall correctly was the first day of school and practice was nearly 100% dedicated to Oklahoma drill. Had the student body watching us practice as they arrived at school.

The worst part of our practices back in the day was that we weren't allowed water breaks. Halfway through the practice our coach would pour a cooler of ice on the ground, the seniors got a handful first and by the time the freshmen got their turn, it was "Slim Pickens". That was all the fluids we were allowed for the entire practice.

That is idiotic.

Football is essentially a after Christmas break season or near year round. With the allowance of summer contact days, two a days are not a necessity. It's much more difficult to be a high school football player in the era of the past 20 years.

In Georgia, we have what they call the Wet Bulb Test! Where there is no practice above 90 degrees! One of the thousand reasons why local tax monies built our indoor practice facility last December!

Two a days the way that most remember them are not allowed in any form now...

two a days? First few years Chuck Literas was at Maryville we had Three a days.

6 am to 8:30 offense
1 pm to 2 pm special teams

And guarantee you got better and in shape! Similar thing happens over the course of a summer at most places now. The ones that kick ass and take names win, the ones that dont, generally dont. Like it or not it's the way it is.

We went 3-8 this year. One practice a day with a weight room/film/paperwork to start. Two groups. Juniors and seniors; Sophomores and Freshmen. It worked well for us, but our young guys did great with the classroom work.

Our teacher meetings started on Thursday and we wanted to have the same schedule all week.
