Believe it is staying the same.Are we still looking at 6 classes or is it going back to 5 this year?
I think eliminating that sort of thing is a big part of the goal.So that means there should not be any girls districts with 1 or 2 teams in it this year.
Lets hope so. It is really stupid.I think eliminating that sort of thing is a big part of the goal.
Only private schools were like that last year. This year, the entire thing will be determined separately. There will be many schools that are in different districts and classes.There were some in different classes and districts last year....
It's only stupid if it's not your school that has teams in different districts and classes.Lets hope so. It is really stupid.
Not sure I follow you. I think it is stupid no matter where my team is in the district process. Having a district with 1 or 2 teams is just dumb. It makes zero sense in any fashion.IO

So the teams in the bootheel that don't have very many girl's basketball teams should have to run all over the place to play in a district not the same as their boys and split up their fans in the process?Not sure I follow you. Yes. Other sports do it. There was a softball district a couple years ago that went from like Aurora to Doniphan. Makes more sense than having a district with a couple teams.So the teams in the bootheel that don't have very many girl's basketball teams should have to run all over the place to play in a district not the same as their boys and split up their fans in the process?
I agree, and the fact that in most cases, a somewhat neutral location is chosen as the host site helps eliminate the really bad travel scenarios.Yes. Other sports do it. There is no splitting of the fans. The boys and girls play on different nights.So the teams in the bootheel that don't have very many girl's basketball teams should have to run all over the place to play in a district not the same as their boys and split up their fans in the process?
Class 5&6 is only moved 2 days, not a week.There is no splitting of the fans. The boys and girls play on different nights.
The District Tournaments shall be played as follows:
Classes 1, 2, & 3 - February 20-25, 2022 (boys - Mon, Wed, Fri; girls – Tues, Thurs, Sat)
Class 4 - February 27 - March 4, 2022 (boys - Mon, Wed, Fri; girls – Tues, Thurs, Sat)
Class 5 & 6 – March 1-7, 2022 (boys – Wed, Fri, Mon; girls – Thurs, Sat, Tues)
Class 5 & 6 are pushed back a week because they do not have sectionals so winner of districts are in the quarterfinals and there isn't a week-long break between district and quarterfinal rounds.
OK, no splitting of fans, just twice the travel. How did anybody decide it was a good idea to do away with sectional games in the big classes? Pretty much means Jackson and P.B. will go to St.Louis every year for districts unless they switch to a rotation rather than getting enough votes to host the districtThere is no splitting of the fans. MSHSAA being lazy would be by guess. They no longer have to find venues for sectional games in classes 5 and 6. Probably saves them money too. I think its ridiculous not to have sectional games as well, but it is what it is.OK, no splitting of fans, just twice the travel. That problem was created by continually adding classes. Dumbest. Idea. Ever.OK, no splitting of fans, just twice the travel. Lol. That Seneca to Versailles trip would be a fun one.oh heck, that happened this year.. I covered a softball district that included, Seneca, Cassville, Reeds Spring, Aurora, Eldon, Osage, Rogersville, and Versailles. Crazy
Our sectional games were at Farmington so it was somewhat equal travel and I have no doubt Farmington would still host it if they played the games. It was a SEMO team vs a St. Louis team so it worked out quite well for teams and fans traveling.MSHSAA being lazy would be by guess. While I would love to see perfect 8 team brackets for my OCD, the school groupings since they have went to 6 classes especially in the lower classes has been very good IMO. Class 5 & 6 are where they are way too thin IMO.That problem was created by continually adding classes. Dumbest. Idea. Ever.
Ironically the Versailles wrestling team makes that trip every year. I think they do it to see who they might face in for state tournamentLol. That Seneca to Versailles trip would be a fun one.
There are two too many classifications.Class 5 & 6 are where they are way too thin IMO.
Dear lord. 6.5 hours or so on a yellow dog for some thrilling wrastln'. Oof.Ironically the Versailles wrestling team makes that trip every year. I think they do it to see who they might face in for state tournament
Back in 2004-2009 or 10,OK, no splitting of fans, just twice the travel. How did anybody decide it was a good idea to do away with sectional games in the big classes? Just like when WP had to that there was NO reason to do it this way over here! They find some way for the St.Louis schools NOT to travel more 25 miles.Back in 2004-2009 or 10,
West Plains was stuck in a 4 team football district with
Poplar Bluff=105 miles
Sikeston= 156 miles
Cape Central= 186 miles
One of those cycles they were also thrown in w/
Farmington= 164 miles
In the last 10-12 years, they’ve had to go as far as:
Webb City=180 miles
These were all district games.
I think Jackson and PB will be just fine.
when you have 40+ high schools in STL county, that’s going to happen.Just like when WP had to that there was NO reason to do it this way over here! They find some way for the St.Louis schools NOT to travel more 25 miles.
The football board has multiple threads on this same issue as well. I think what some people forget is winning a district championship does mean something to these kids. It isn't just about the state championship. Some still get letterman's jacket and patches. Track is brutal sometimes as well.Class 6 District 8:
Park Hill
Staley
Oak Park
Liberty
That's brutal
You really don't understand MSHSAA, huh?Seems like an easy fix if MSHSAA would actually do some work. Pick the site hosts ahead of time each year and create the districts at season's end. The majority would choose to travel an extra hour in some cases vs. having loaded districts. It really wouldn't take much work.
