Gotta trade one of the guys on the team who can post a 5 WAR season to get more guys with 1-2 WAR potential

I think Pham was mad enough at the Cards that he wasn't going to re-sign anyway. And I don't think the Cards thought he was going to be good enough to throw the money he thinks he's worth at him to try to get him to stay. I don't have any confidence that he'd be a top player for the next few years. I don't mind it.

I don’t get this at all. Still had three yes of club control. Pham has been pissed for a while, but still plays through it. Seems like MO just moved him because he viewed him as a cancer. A true sign of paranoia in leadership. Get rid of detractors and surround yourself with sheep. Btw, sure looks like MO got fleeced here. But hey, hopefully I’ll get to see Fowler for another 200 ABs or so. His smile makes it all worth it.

Just think.... They could have traded him after last year and actually have gotten a return lol

I don’t think Pham is/was happy in StL, anyway. Probably best for all. Doesn’t bother me too much. I wish they would have included Fowler for a bag of BP balls. Then Cards would have a Fleeced Seattle.

Eh. Why keep someone around who is pissed at you and doesn't want to be there? That's not good for anyone. Get what you can for him and give him a new opportunity. I don't why you call that paranoia. And who's to say they could get anything more for him. He a 30 year old average outfielder with a history of physical issues who thinks he deserves a big contract. Not exactly a high demand type of player.

I'd be awesome if they could get rid of Fowler too but that's going to be harder.

Didn’t want to be there? Has Pham said that? I just got he was pissed he didn’t get paid. If the Birds were going to treat him like garbage, should’ve moved him last year when he had some value.

Keep him around because he can actually play baseball, sometimes very well. That’s a rarity with Cardinal OF’ers this year.

Eagless_Ball, if you’re referring to my comment; no, I’ve never heard Pham say he didn’t want to be in StL, but when they didn’t pay him what he thought he was/is worth, he sure seemed upset with the organization and wanted to prove them wrong. In order to do that he would need someone else to pay him what he thought he was/is worth. Hence my thinking he wasn’t overly joyed in playing half his games in Busch. Maybe Seattle or someone else will agree with his self-evaluation and fork over more green. I know there are some assumptions in my analysis. But I don’t think anyone can prove otherwise without assuming a few things, as well.

I said Seattle ... Tampa. So many ex-Cards are in Seattle now. I guess I had them on my mind.

This is EXACTLY what I have talked about all year. Mo has an incredible knack for not selling high. Personally I would have shopped Carpenter all over baseball this week. If you wanted to trade Pham it should have been in December. Incredible.

We could have traded Reyes and Kelly for a hellacious bat two years ago. Mo is just the biggest wussy. Mind boggling.

This just has the 70s written all over it. trade Carlton because he made you mad.

Do you listen to Bernie's radio program or read him daily? He flip flops more than John Kerry. A Pham hot streak or a Bader slump and he will be singing a different tune. He has been doing it for 25 years.

Probably for another posting category ... Did you say John Kerry “would” flip-flop or “wouldn’t?”

30 year old with vision problems who had 1 good year! One hit wonder who is hitting 248 and getting thrown out stealing at an alarming rate. Time to see what the young OFs can do and they had to clear space for that to happen! At least I look forward to games again Good luck to Pham but I really think he peaked last year and will not come close to matching that/

From a different perspective, Pham at his best was better than Fowler's best. Pham at his worst is better than Fowler's worst. If you want to play the young guys, sit Fowler's arse and let the young guys play.

Hopefully he is on a very short leash! He is back to his automatic out mode and we should be seeing Bader in center and ONeil in right by the end of the week1

I’m also hoping, like several others here, that Mo is the next subtraction. Earlier I said I’d take a bag of BP balls for Fowler. Throw in a pine tar rag and you can have an executive/front office guy, too.

Then they are not serious about winning and deserve anything that comes their way!
Obviously they’re trying to get him hot enough to move him. But not working. Cut the cord and DFA his a$$. He’s awful at the plate and not a very good RF. He’s exactly the reason I’m miffed at moving both Mercado and Pham. Dumb move.
