So I don't have to say strikeouts mean nothing anymore if you hit some HR's?We seen this last year so no surprise. If he hits .270 with 25 HRs and 80 RBIs I will grin and bear it.

I never said that.So I don't have to say strikeouts mean nothing anymore if you hit some HR's?
Didn't mean you in particular, it's just how it is these days. I heard them say on the game tonight that strikeout numbers in all of MLB at this point in the season are way ahead of any season ever.I never said that.
I have no earthly idea how anyone can think a SO is just another out. The chances of ANYTHING positive coming from a SO are just minuscule.I thought of you the other night 3R, when the Astros won a game 1-0 on a walk-off pop up on the infield. Put the ball in play and .........
Just think if they actually called the K zone to the letter of the rule. Eeek.Didn't mean you in particular, it's just how it is these days. I heard them say on the game tonight that strikeout numbers in all of MLB at this point in the season are way ahead of any season ever.
They seem to be calling it closer, at least according to the Fox strike zone box. A lot more high strikes are being called. Guys know it and are swinging at them more too. Having to worry about the higher pitches is causing the sinkers to be even more effective thus more Ks.Just think if they actually called the K zone to the letter of the rule. Eeek.
Or shrink the zone back down. Calling higher strikes is making it tougher to hit.I think it is time to move the mound toward second base a foot or two. We need more action.
IF...big IF...they call the zone...eventually teams will realize the need for contact and running the bases. Also going to need to relax on all the warning and ejections for pitching inside. Today's game of BB, K, and HR is pretty tough to watch. Even for a junkie like myself.I think it is time to move the mound toward second base a foot or two. We need more action.
You mean Whiteyball could make a comeback?? Could it work on grass fields?IF...big IF...they call the zone...eventually teams will realize the need for contact and running the bases. Idk...BUT...surely...if the K zone gets called (and I agree, it was a good zone last night...but wow, other nights it has been BRUTAL) and the shifting continues, the offenses will have to adjust. How can they not? It still baffles me, in some situations, why guys don't bunt to beat the shift. Sooner or later something will give. But all this is predicated on the K zone actually being called. Might be a rough year or two before anything comes of it, but they will adjust...Another thing, get the ball from the catcher and throw the GD baseball. Drives me nuts in HS games, and MLB games are worse. Stay on the mound, receive the ball, get back on the mound, and throw a freaking pitch. If the batter isn't in the box, no worries. That BS is no better than it was. Only difference, the batter now stands with one foot in the box and one foot out.You mean Whiteyball could make a comeback?? Could it work on grass fields?
I'm not sure tightening the zone is what would happen. It's my belief, if they automated the K zone (the only real way to call it correctly) there would be way more strikes called.Man, I don't really know how to fix it all, because tightening the zone may lead to even more agonizing amounts of walks
That is the thing right there that I don't get at all. They're giving you a hit. Lay one down and take it. Especially if you're having a hard time generating any offense.Idk...BUT...surely...if the K zone gets called (and I agree, it was a good zone last night...but wow, other nights it has been BRUTAL) and the shifting continues, the offenses will have to adjust. I'm for it! If nothing else I won't have to watch a batter with one foot in the box and one out while the pitcher stomps around and holds at the set position and steps off four times.Back in the day if games were running late in the slow pitch softball league, each batter would start with a 1-1 count. I am all in.
Get to xtra innings, start with a full count.
SWING THE FREAKIN BAT. SHORTEN UP AND PUT THE BALL IN PLAY.
I think this would be a problem, too, because the K rates are already astronomical.I'm not sure tightening the zone is what would happen. It's my belief, if they automated the K zone (the only real way to call it correctly) there would be way more strikes called.

If I were to change things, I'd want to lessen HR, BB, and Ks, not increase them.
Carp makes an 'attempt' to bunt once in a while but I think he intentionally fouls it off. Most of his bunt attempts ain't even close to being a fair ball. Until he actually drops down a few the defense will stay in the all out shift. That is the thing right there that I don't get at all. They're giving you a hit. Lay one down and take it. Every slow pitch game I play in starts with a 1-1 count nowadays.Back in the day if games were running late in the slow pitch softball league, each batter would start with a 1-1 count. I am all in.
My point was, eventually teams would switch their philosophies. It'd be hard to watch during the transition, but I honestly think the game would change.I think this would be a problem, too, because the K rates are already astronomical.

I played five games one day in a 3-2 tourney back in my youth. I've literally never been so tired from playing slow pitch in my life!Every slow pitch game I play in starts with a 1-1 count nowadays.
The trick is to play catcher and just hit dingers or pop fly outs in all of your at batsI played five games one day in a 3-2 tourney back in my youth. I've literally never been so tired from playing slow pitch in my life!
