That contract is not that insane, really. Especially since it is only 3 years.Wade Davis to Rockies as closer market gets smaller Birds still need one. I would not have paid 17 million a year for closer, but that might be the going price.
Arenado is already factored in, at $17MThat contract is not that insane, really. Especially since it is only 3 years.
There's also a lot of LOL at the Rockies spending money like this to win, what, 79 games? What is the point? What is their plan with Arenado and Blackmon next year with this much budget dedicated to the bullpen? Bizarre.
They can stop him from doing that pretty easily, though. Also, it's likely $4 years at $66.... not the 3/52. All he has to do is finish 30 games in 2020. That's not much for a vesting option
I'm more talking about 2019 than 2018. It's not even just the pen...that Desmond contract sucks too. They are going to have their budget already set in bad position players and relievers without having any money spent on Blackmon or Arenado. It's criminally bad budget management.Arenado is already factored in, at $17M
It's Blackmon and Arbitration that will be the issue. That, and the fact they have pumped upwards of $45M into their pen.
They can, but that also involves finding a pitcher that you can justifiably say is better than Davis. They can stop him from doing that pretty easily, though.
What do you mean Desmond? How is $22M for a negative WAR player a bad deal.....I'm more talking about 2019 than 2018. It's not even just the pen...that Desmond contract sucks too. They are going to have their budget already set in bad position players and relievers without having any money spent on Blackmon or Arenado. It's criminally bad budget management.
If you're on pace to lose 90 games you may not want him closingThey can, but that also involves finding a pitcher that you can justifiably say is better than Davis.
If that doesn't happen, you know the Players Association will murder them
I'm assuming you know about his trade clause? If you're on pace to lose 90 games you may not want him closing
you don't have to let him close. It's a games finished test.I'm assuming you know about his trade clause?
Oh, I know. He finished nearly 60 last yearyou don't have to let him close. It's a games finished test.
Clearly, the GM thinks they have to spend 50 M a year on the bullpen on a team with a 115 M payroll, so maybe they want that to vest. Sheesh.Oh, I know. He finished nearly 60 last year
But his trade clause is going to keep him in colorado when they fall apart by the all star break this season.
He has absolutely no protection right now. The moment he is traded, full no trade clause goes into effect. So he's going to be stuck in colorado, and they wont find anyone better than him. So if the PA feels they are trying to bypass his vesting option, they will appeal. It's going to take him turning into pure garbage for them to justify not using him at the end of games
I give the guy credit for trying. But, he has backed himself into a win now situationClearly, the GM thinks they have to spend 50 M a year on the bullpen on a team with a 115 M payroll, so maybe they want that to vest. Sheesh.
