The folks at work usually make the best comments but so far this weekend I've heard the following from my Webb friends:
  • They (Webb) really just beat themselves.
  • We sure gave that one away.
  • Joplin is twice our size, shouldn't it be expected for them to win?
  • Every time we play them there is some weird asterisk... "that kid that died", the flag planting, just always something.
So far none have acknowledged that Joplin may just have a good coach with a good team that has outplayed them.

One thing I gather from talking to people in both sides of that rivalry is that I sense a whole lot more respect from Joplin towards Webb than the other way around. I thing most Webb fans have a hard time reconciling their historic perceptions of Joplin with the reality that has unfolded over the last 5 years.

Forgot the best one I heard today... "Probably would have been an entirely different game if we weren't playing without (the kid who transferred FROM JOPLIN)"

I heard most of these at work today. I prefer my CJ co-workers game comments--short, to the point, and not much excuse--"We have no offense and play calling was not good. Our defense was on field too much and was gassed."

Much respect to Coach Rod, he shook every Joplin players hand and congratulated every player.

Today is the first time I heard good things from WC fans about Joplin. The rivalry is still there but I feel Joplin is starting to get a little respect as one of the "3 headed monster" from the West (as Springfield Calls Webb City, Carthage & Joplin)

Heard the same from Smithville losing to Kearney. When turnovers are forced it wasn’t given away. It was taken away.
 
Joplin is 1-0 vs lees summit. Beat em in OT in districts last year.

Over the last 5 years I think Joplin is something like 13-3, 13-4 against Class 6. So not too bad, that includes a state title loss in 19

Losses to 6A:
2017 8-2 lost to Lee's Summit 1st round
2018 10-3 lost to CBS State Semi's
2019 13-1 State Runner up lost to DeSmet
2020 6-5 Lost to Nixa & RayPec 2nd round
(I don't think Ozark was 6A yet)
2021 10-2 lost to LSN District 3 Championship

Wins are:
2017 - Kickapoo
2018 - Kickapoo, Lindberg & Kirkwood-Dictict 3 Championship
2019 - Jefferson City, Kirkwood, Marquette-District 3 Championship & Fort Zulmwalt West-State Semi's
2021 - Nixa (Twice) Ozark & Lee's Summit

To be honest, I have never understood the 6A complaint When Joplin moved from the OC to the COC.. in the OC Joplin, Kickapoo was the 6A schools and the rest was 4A & 5A schools... Joplin moves to the COC and suddenly it's a big school picking on small schools.. does anybody understand that logic? Now the COC has 3 - 6A with the possibility of Republic moving up next year.. Republic has the biggest rooster in the COC right now BTW. 166 kids on that team.

How big is their rooster? Enormous?

I can confirm it was pretty large when they played at Carthage! Joking aside they did have a TON of kids over there. A ton of fans as well. About as many as Nixa brought. Which was encouraging to see because for years I've complained at the tiny crowds most of the COC teams have brought. I think one Friday night a few years ago I counted like 38 people over on the visitor side I think from Ozark.

It appears Jasper is doing a fine job despite his 1-3 record against Carthage. I would assume Coach Jasper feels like Coach McGinity did at halftime against Dallas. Joplin is gonna need "miles and miles of heart" to even the series back up..
