I agree about the QB and RB but we lost our entire D line so how do we replace that?

I was waiting in line at an event last fall and overheard a couple guys wearing CJ hats talking football. I didn't know them, just started eavesdropping when they started talking football and COC. They were both of the opinion that they would be very good that (last) season and "might" be pretty good next season (2018). But they both seemed to think it was all downhill after that because their was no significant talent in the pipeline and youth participation and facilities were very poor. I'd be interested to hear the take from other CJ fans. Actual CJ fans, not Flint.

I suspect they were just pessimistic, but who knows. I've heard from friends from WC suggest they thought the glory days were about over only to go on a string a state titles. I would be surprised to see CJ peak and fall so quickly. That community has a lot going for it from my outside opinion.

Sounds mostly true. The freshman team was undefeated but the Junior High teams were both winless. I don't think 2018 will be the last good year but 2019 or 2020 might.

I will say not sure what is going on in CJ but their youth numbers have been declining for a few years. They went from two youth teams per grade down to one I know we had two grades that had more kids out than they did. Come a few years from now they might be wishing they stayed in the Big 8.

I asked a friend who lives over there about it and he didn't know much about football but said youth sports in general were a frustrating experience. He blamed it mostly on staff turnover and unclear roles and conflicts regarding who is managing the programs. In Carthage they are mostly run by the Y and in Webb City I think it's Parks & Rec. Sounds like in CJ the problem was that whatever person or agency used to be in charge backed away or retired or something and either no one has properly filled the void or maybe too many are trying to take control.

He also added that a lesser issue but still an issue was the quality and availability of facilities. He said given the population and resources in the community they should be able to do much better. The field where they play soccer he described as a rocky cow pasture. He said the ball fields are in bad shape but no one is interested in doing any upgrades other than minimum maintenance because it's next to Center Creek which damages it with flood debris on an almost yearly basis. I guess there is a potential ballot proposal to fund a completely new youth baseball complex that looked pretty cool. That would be a good first step.

CJ is steadily growing and as I said I think it's got a lot going for it, so it may just be a temporary bump in the road or some growing pains. Who knows.

Yes AC100 is right. The freshmen is last promising team. Fr team has lost only 1 game since 7th grade- --second game against WC. But the grades behind them- -not so promising.

All very interesting ....
So, not a matter of other sports thriving and football on a decline?
Sounds like a few 'overall' down years. Hate to see that with the big move in conferences.
It looks like boys sports will decline but girls sports will not. There are a lot of good female athletes in junior high. My daughter is in 8th grade so I have knowledge of both.
