Final score DeSmet 63- JC 0. I'm not sure what the coaches are teaching the boys at Jeff City, but I recommend they start updating their resumes. Three losing seasons in a row and now the worst loss in 94 years (1925). How bad do you have to get before you clean house?

LePage never won more than 9 games in a season (twice) and had a terrible year before he left (3-7). But nothing like the 63-0 thrashing like we saw tonight.

It was actually three 9 win seasons, but that's beside the point.
LePage put a good product out on the field every year with the exception of his last year there. Go back and look at the teams he had and the teams they played against. They beat some dang good teams and competed with other really good teams. Heck they even brought Coach Cole back, who was apart of all 10 Jeff City state titles, and it didn't change anything. Fact is, it's a lot harder than you think to win state championships at Jeff City this day and age than what all these idiot bleacher gurus think it is.
In the coaching circle around the state and at the class 6 level, LePage was and still is, respected and regarded as a great coach. Jeff City had a good program under LePage, sure they weren't great, or championship caliber. But the last 7 or so years of his time at Jeff City he had a lot of people working against him, battling him on the way he ran his program, and criticizing his program for every little stupid thing.
The best thing Jeff City ever did for LePage was fire him. If I was him, I would put my state championship rings on my middle fingers and flip Jeff City the bird for all the BS he dealt with. But for clarity he would never do that because he's a better person than I am.

I agree with most of what you said, but I can't honestly say he was a great Class 6 level coach. He had a 65% winning percentage overall - not too bad, but certainly not great at this level. He was only 5-8 in post season. He was 2-11 overall vs. Rockhurst. Most importantly, he ran off a great quarterback (the Porter kid) who transferred to Helias and set passing records there. That was, in my and many others opinion, a major error in judgement.
LePage is a great small school coach and I hope he continues to be successful at Blair Oaks.

Going to be interesting to see how the two schools system will affect Jeff City going forward. I believe they will be both about the size of Camdenton/Waynesville/Lebanon etc.

Usually when a coach like Adkins is rolling along, it is not appreciated till they are gone. Seems like all you heard was how anyone could do it a JC because they were a huge school.

If LePage was at a school like CBC, Rockhurst, Blue Springs, etc. He would have won state championships too. Talent does matter, and it sure as heck makes a difference between winning state championships or not. I haven't seen a Class 6 school win a state title that isn't loaded with D1 talent. Fact is Jeff City doesn't have that kind of talent. He got fired because he couldn't win the big one, well good luck finding someone that will. Nick Saban wouldn't have been able to win a state championship at Jeff City.
Being considered a great coach in high school is more than just wins and losses, there's more to it than that. Notice I said other coaches consider him a great coach, you know guys who have won state titles and have had to coach against him. There's a reason that Blair Oaks and CBC, or Blair Oaks and Lee's Summit scrimmage/practice each other during the summer time.

Convincing talented athletes with options to attend your school is a skill that most high school coaches don’t have to develop. You have to develop a wide array of contacts all of the country and know people in the game at the highest level. I’ve spent a significant amount of time around college football and basketball coaches and they are people people in a way that many HS coaches are not.

I don’t doubt there are a handful of high school coaches who would excel at the college level, but you’re kidding yourself if you think most of them could handle it ... far too many couldn’t name a single assistant college coach at any school in the state, let alone have an army of nationwide contacts, and struggle to handle four angry moms, two bent dads and a mad grandma let alone intense media scrutiny, boosters, donors and all the other things that go into being a successful college coach.

With the amount of money involved in coaching college football I’d say the vast majority of coaches who could do it would do it.

You know, I’ve often wondered if the HS coaches (like Adkins, et al) that win that many games might not be the best at any level.
If you’re a college coach and need a fullback, you go out and get one.
If you’re an NFL coach and need a free safety, you go out an draft one.
HS coaches (in the public ones, anyway. Ha!) get what they get year in and year out. Pretty amazing there are coaches in HS that win so consistently if you think about it.
I agree with you 100%.

Yup.

Dr Billy is the coach that most the Blair Oaks community was happy to see leave. Good riddance.
