College football's transfer portal has created a 'chaos' for high school recruits; here's how to fix it

College football needs a calendar adjustment because the current system isn’t good for anyone.

COVID holdover scholarships and the transfer portal are shrinking the pool dramatically. Now lower tier schools are functioning in the role of junior colleges. It makes sense to be risk averse, and so why take the higher risk on high schoolers when you can pick up a transfer?

About 8-12 spots for high schoolers at the big D1s. It trickles down.

Basketball is horrendous for high schoolers now. The rosters are so small. Not sure why AAU is still so popular. Even the 17U AAU is bringing seniors or graduates back to play on those teams which are usually just juniors in hopes of getting scholarships. Saw it multiple times last year where those guys finally would get picked up in June once the transfer portal slowed down and then they would leave.

Forces high schoolers to go FCS or D2, then transfer after after a couple years if they want to go bigger. Not everyone wants to be transplanting JUST for football. Dumb. So gone will be the days of the 4th and 5th year player at one school. Between basketball's idiocy with the one-and-done and this transfer portal, they have pretty much Fd college sports up.

I think it will level out in a few years when Covid years are gone and when kids realize some many of them are getting screwed over
